Best way to store kids wooden puzzles?

We seem to be getting them from everyone, and while enjoyable when being played... how do I store them all so the pieces don't go missing?

I was thinking some kind of individual box or hand made bag with a big pocket for the board and a smaller pocket for the pieces. I don't have a ton of room (or time). But if they were nicely put away I could have them 'out.' I've seen the racks. But I'm not sure that'll work for us as it doesn't really 'contain' them.
Anyone have any cheaper/ faster/ better options?

I keep them in the cardboard box they come in, with an elastic band around it if it's getting a bit tatty. Why do you want to 'double wrap' them? A pile of boxes in a cupboard works perfectly well.

Or are you talking about wooden inset puzzles like this, which do not usually have more than cellophane around them when new? We've collected about ten of these over the years, and I keep the board stacked in an Ikea box, with all the pieces in a drawstring bag popped in there too.

Bored now!

Yeah they're just cellophane wrapped puzzles. We've got a good dozen of them. The pieces get everywhere and get lost or misplaced and show up in the strangest places. I need to contain the pieces more than anything.

I use those zip-lock freezer bags to keep puzzles together.

Those ones without a box are v. annoying though.

At mine they're all just piled up on a shelf but my mum has all hers in a wicker basket, just on top of each other. I'm always the one who has to put them all away every time!

I am annoyed that most children's toys don't come with any sort of box these days - not just puzzles but toys themselves too.

I find stacking them leads to a tower which when knocked makes a tremendous mess, leaving me a lot to clear up. I may try ziplock bags if I can find some big enough, but I have a feeling they won't be durable enough
It is very annoying not having boxes/ containers for things to be tidied neatly away in isn't it? I keep having to buy things to put other things in... annoying.

for puzzles on the loose I also use ziploc bags they are quite durable. wooden ones I try to store as flat as possible so that the pieces don*t deform.

I use the zip loc bags for loads of toy storage

All our jigsaw puzzles go in plastic bags inside the box. So SO much easier
Would need to be very big bags for the wooden ones tho- maybe just smaller bags and tape them to the frame?

bebemoohatessnot · 17/06/2010 08:20

Yeah I've not found any ziploc bags big enough I'll have to do some more searching.

Hi, I don't usually post but have had this problem too so wanted to help out!

I use plastic stationery folders, like you get for school work. The ones that are shaped like an envelope and have a popper to close are great. Something like this, but in A4.

We use the Ikea trofast storage box, sorry couldn't find it on the website although there is a picture on the first page of the childrens furniture.
Basically it looks like the shallow trays they use in school, you can buy a unit to slot them into or buy a lid and stack them. I put the puzzles in complete, you can stack about 4 on top of each other in one tray.

bebemoohatessnot · 17/06/2010 16:20

I'll look into both those ideas this weekend. Not sure I have the space for a trofast unless I did some rearranging, but perhaps I can come with something.
