I think it is time to invest in some really good pots and pans. Any recommendations? Or where is a good place to get some from?

Not top of the range by any means but I have some Judge Vista steel pans and find them fantastic.

You can get them very cheap at saucepan shops online.

I have Stellar - they have lasted for more than 10 years so far, and are still immaculate despite all the abuse they get from me

ZacharyQuack · 11/06/2010 13:30

We have WMF stainless steel pans. We've had them about 15 years, a couple of months ago the handle broke off one of the pots, and we got a free replacement pot.

Are the stainless steel non stick? I really need non stick pans. I have got a tefal wok and I love it, I can cook anything ion it and it never sticks. But have had it for 2 or 3 years and can see it is getting worn now...

No, they're not, but I find that saucepans don't really stick anyway. (apart from the Great Plum Jam Calamity)

I've got a couple of Tefal non-stick frying pans and they are really good, however they won't last 15 years.

newstart2010 · 11/06/2010 14:45

Yes that is exactly what I was thinking... Do you think the non stick saucepans would be a good idea and still last a long time?

I am having same dilemma - non-stick v stainless steel? My non-stick were from john lewis and lasted 8 years of dish-washing, whisking etc. I think I would go for them again but buy the silicone implements so I don't scratch them this time.

They are around £100 for 3.

PestoEatsPasties · 11/06/2010 14:57

I would heartily recommend

Circulon pans

especially if you buy them from Costco

MargaretAtwood3660 · 11/06/2010 16:46

The reason I got steel this time was reading about Teflon and how carcinogenic it is supposed to be.

So I would go with steel.

I have the tefal jamie Oliver stainless steel ones.

They're fab. Good solid lids and handles that are riveted not screwed so don't get that awful wobble.

Haven't had much issue with stuff sticking- apart from scrambled eggs.

mistressploppy · 12/06/2010 09:44

Another vote here for Circulon, I got mine from John Lewis (wedding list, they are expensive but hopefully will last forever)

notso · 12/06/2010 09:53

I have a mixture of Judge Vista and Stellar all bought from TK Maxx, most of them were in the sale, they are fantastic, I love the drainy lids on the Judge Vista.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/06/2010 10:36

I love my SKK ones, but they are mucho £££.

MadameCastafiore · 12/06/2010 10:46

I have a set of almond coloured kitchen aid opnes from John Lewis (so they match my food mixer!!) - they are brilliant, heat up really quickly and nothing has so far stuck to them - they were a replacement for the Le Crueset which DH insisted on buying years ago and although they lasted were far too heavy and everything - even pasta - stuck to them (they are now asleep in the cellar awaiting me to get my arse in gear to find them a good home)

catinthehat2 · 12/06/2010 11:11

My saucepans are stainelss from JLewis, I envisage them being buried with me. I think it is not necessary to have non stick saucepans - where do all the little worn off bits go, I wonder...

FRying & omelette pan however, comes from IKEA. vv good quality, and similar to Circulon but at a realistic price.

It is non stick , because it never goes through the dishwasher and never sees detergent. I wipe with kitchen roll and use boiling water to clean, and the surface has been fantastic for years now. The pan heats up evenly and it is a good weight without breaking your arm like LeCreuset.

Worth having a serious look at IKEA pans, unless they've changed, there are some gems.

Analon - I only have one and it is now in constant use for anything except mash, and that is just because I daren't damage it with the metal basher. So, so, so easy to clean.

My Circulon frying pan has unbelievable non-stick.

bunjies · 12/06/2010 15:47

We've got a set of these Swift pans. We got them from Steamer Trading in Brighton.

They are brilliant and even though they're not non-stick, if anything does stick it comes off really easily with one of those metal scourers. Really love them. I find the non-stick ones don't stay non-stick so you'd probably have to fork out for another set in a few years.
