Where can I get really long garden bench cushions?

We just got an old garden swing bench, which is pretty rusty but I hope to tart it up a bit!

The seat and back are made like a grid, so need something padded to cover them but most of the cushions from places like Tesco and Argos seem to be 5ft or less - ours needs to be 6ft long, or 180cmish.

I wondered about getting some foam from Dunelm or somewhere and making my own but buying them would be SO much easier!

Thankyou if you can find me some...MN is brill at stuff like this

Try emailing / calling www.alfresia.co.uk/gardenbenchcushions.html or here

I just made some from an old foam mattress (freecycle) and a curtain (charity shop £10). Took me an hour to make.

Wow! What a brill idea.
I just realised I can't really afford the ones in the link, sadly - so might try and get some foam and cover it. How did you do the edges, WMMC? Was it tricky?

Basically I measured the space and cut the foam with a very sharp carving knife (takes ages - you'll be surprised).

In terms of the pattern measure
(1) the width and the depth of the cushion
(2) The thickness of the foam
(3) Cut 2 x depth + thickness plus four cms (for two cm hem) times width plus four cms.
(3) Invert and machine sew long ends (you will have two open ends so you've essentially created a tube).
(4) Cut two strips width + 4cm by depth of cushion + 4cm
(5) Tack and machine sew or hand sew one end on.
(6) Turn right side out - push into cushion.
(7) Tack and hand sew the other end.

Actually a lot simpler than you'd think!

Oh thankyou, that sounds doable with a bit of patience! Lovely of you to go into such detail.
I was having visions of four box sides and piping

I think I might not go to those lengths, it sounds as though yours were very successful

If you are feeling ultra lazy, get a single duvet cover, cut foam, shove in duvet cover, sew all the way round with sewing machine so it is sewn in, cut off excess. Glue ribbon round border.

This is where I had my bench cushion made. Was easy enough to cover.
