How do you store all your linen/towels if you don't (sob) have an airing cupboard?

I have been in this house for over 2 years and still haven't got my head round where to keep all this stuff

I bought a old free standing tall cupboard from an auction. It was incredibly manky and it took ages to get rid of the smell of jeyes fluid [think it had been used as tool storage]but it was nice in the end.

We added shelves and painted it a nice colour and it stands on the landing.

I have always had an airing cupboard before, so like you I thought where on earth do you put your sheets without one!

In an old pine wardrobe which DH put shelves in which is in baby's (biggish) bedroom. I struggled with this for years so I feel your pain!

I keep all the towels for the bathroom in a wicker hamper on the landing.

Tea towels & hand towels for the kitchen, I keep in a drawer in the side board in the dining room - I don't have a single drawer in my kitchen!

I have titchy airing cupboard
so I keep spare bedroom linen in the bedrooms they're for.
So ds has a spare set in the drawers under his bed and dd and us have spare sets in wardrobes.
Towels I have blanket box for.

A joiner built a top-loading cupboard next to the bath.

Lovely large modern Heal's chest of drawers (ebay bargain at £200) in spare bedroom.

Oh...this is the bane of my life too. I have tried everything, but nothing really works. I need a large, LOCKABLE linen press. (Because my two boys, when they come home, keep taking clean towels and dropping them on the floor ). I want to keep towels clean, tidy and rationed. I have looked everywhere for a suitable piece of furniture without success, so will be watching with interest.

In a plastic box under the bed.

SacharissaCripslock · 03/06/2010 20:44

I bought a linen cupboard from Ikea. It was reduced right down so I snapped it up even though I had nowhere to put it. I have squeezed it into my bedroom and I'm so sad that I like lying in bed and seeing all the lovely folded sheets and things. It has a lock so my evil children can't get in and ruin all my work!

Family towels - rolled up in the basket in the bathroom

Guest towels - large blanket box in the spare room

Our bed linen - in drawers under our bed

Dd's bed linen - in a large plastic box under her bed

Spare bed linen, table cloths, swimming towels etc - large blanket box in the spare room

I have an unusable airing cupboard (the cold water pipes going into the boiler collect the condensation so brownish water drips from them onto whatever is stored beneath)this is more frustrating than not having a cupboard.

CantSupinate · 08/06/2010 12:20

In a wardrobe in DS1's small room; 6 people, so absolutely fills it from top to bottom. Luckily DS1 is not a hoarder, so doesn't have a huge amount of stuff himself.

We do have an airing cupboard, but it is A) not anywhere near big enough for all that, and B) I often need the airing cupboard space to get damp things dry.

All the DC have some general household/spare stuff stored in each of their rooms, we couldn't manage otherwise.
