Do I need to get a new dishwasher....

or is there still something I can do to make ours work better?

For the last few months there is always a film of fine 'crap' for want of a better word which seems to be welded on to certain items (mainly top shelf stuff)and needs soaking/handwashing off.

I've tried cleaning the filter each time it's used, using a dishwasher cleaner, making sure not too much food left on plates, decent tablets etc.

Any other ideas I could try or do I just need to bite the bullet and get a new one? To be fair, it's worked well for 12 years prior to this (Bosch).

If you think I need a new one what would you recommend?

Thanks

Have you cleaned the spray arms?

De-scale the arm thingy that whizzes round underneath the top rack. On my dishwasher you can't take that off to do it, but you can scrub at the holes with an old toothbrush or diswashing brush.

Refill your salt and rinse aid compartments (even if you use the 3-in-1 tablets).

You don't need a new diswasher yet, I'd bet my bottom dollar on it.

Thanks - will give it a try. Would prefer not to shell out for a new one (am in nesting mode at 37 wks and have spent a small fortune on things we 'need' for the house whilst I've been on mat leave....) xx

I had a man come out for the same thing and he said it was 'user error'! On his advice I now use liquid or powder, not tablets, and always keep salt and rinse aid topped up. It's still not perfect though - and how annoying is it having to sift through the stuff to see what's clean and what's not?! Oh and HOW ANNOYING when DH puts something away not noticing it has a 'film of fine crap' on it?!

Sorry about the mini-rant, I hadn't realised quite how annoyed I was by my dishwasher!

Dcb - I gave in and called in a man to mine last week, dp had cleaned out all the pipes, but had missed a little one underneath so the man cleared it out and it was gunged. Dp said it was disgusting. It was right underneath the machine. It's working a treat now and that was a lot cheaper than a new machine.

Thanks all - have cleaned the spray arms - a bit yucky but not too bad. Have filled the salt up and will get some rinse aid. Using Fairy liquid tabs at present (on special at Sains and have stocked up). Might think about getting someone to come and clean it out. Be nice if it would just keep going.

Monty 27 - how much did it cost you?

Thanks again x

dcb - I think it was £30. Dp paid. They all charge different so check first if you phone one.

(Can you tell I'm on mat leave and have extra time on my hands?)

Now cleaning really well after doing above, so DW has a reprieve for a while....

dcb - I did everything with mine. I must have spent a fortune wasting hot washes, re-washes, dishwasher tablets, salt, rinser etc trying to sort mine and cleaned the filter and blades many many times before I gave in and called in the 'man'. It was a false economy really not to have relented sooner.
