matress protectors

I have a nice shiny new mattress for our double bed which I would like to keep that way so I was thinking of getting a waterproof mattress protector to stop any accidents caused by the kids (which is the reason we needed a new mattress anyway).

I have had a look around but there are so many! Can anyone recommend one for me?

Thanks!!!

The boots ones are meant to be good, I use hippy chick for DD but DM reckons the boots ones are better (she has to use them when my DB is home for weekends as he has learning disabilities and still has the odd accident here and there, he feels quite insulted though if he finds out there is a plastic sheet so she has to find ones that you cannot tell are there!)

The M&S ones are okay but slightly too small for most beds. The ones from the White Company are fantastic, but pricey.
John Lewis ones are great but don't wash as well.

I've tried quite a few over the years.

The hippychick rectangular mats i've found to be quite good (not 100% waterproof but not bad). However i've got 2 of the hippychick fitted sheets and i'd say they're pretty useless (shrunk in wash so very difficult to get back on mattress; not very waterproof at all and where i've had to battle to get hte sheet onto the bed ... the seams are not looking too healthy!)

I've tried cheap basic waterproof sheets ... pretty nasty - even for occasional use and conspicuous too owing to the crinkling noises they make.

I have a small 'mat style' protector which i got from boots quite a few years ago and it's still going strong ... a nice cotton cover and waterproof back ... and it actually works which helps! just a shame it isn't bigger ... but you can probably get bigger ones.

Good luck with finding the right one for you:-)

got one from IKEA which is like a fitted sheet. hot wash and dryer possible. had it for 4 years now, washed it often and only now it started to look a little worn.

I can highly recommend this waterproof mattress protector. My boys have them on their beds and they aren't at all plasticy, but nice and soft with a cotton towelling type of top and an extremely thin backing (which is obviously the waterproof part).

Thing is, I did make a mistake and bought a different type of waterproof mattress protector for my younger sons cot bed (as these aren't available in cot bed sizes) and it was really horrible, literally a piece of plastic that made him sweat dreadfully.

These "complete care mattress protectors" aren't like that at all, you would hardly notice they are on the bed at all. Obviously they work too and my boys don't have any stains on their mattresses even though they constantly wet their beds.
