Storage bags that you compress with a vacuum cleaner - any good?

Argh need more space! Are those bags that you suck all the air out of and squash down actually any good?

I have some duvets, blankets, winter clothes etc that are taking up too much space.

Are these a good solution? Are some better than others? I see there are some on Ebay.

Help!

I have had the bags from argos and pound land but the go back to their full size and do not stay compressed. I am thinking I need to put them in a box, but think the lid will come off the box when the bag expands...

Same here, JML ones crap. Others generally v.good, although they get v.heavy if you use the big ones and put a lot of stuff in, and the lumpiness is a problem.

We use them to take away the holiday bedding for our caravan. Once they are opened, they then double up as bags for the dirty laundry. Admittedly they are not vacuumed on the way back, but we are a bit less precious about things on the return journey.

I use them for storing baby/children's clothes in the attic. Dust- and waterproof, and far more easily stacked than eg bin bags.

Mine are JML cheapies from Quality Save IIRC. I'm sure JL ones are easier to use but I've had no problems with my cheapies, even with multiple undoing/resealing as the clothes go up and down the loft ladder.

The roll-up ones are absolute fucking garbage though. I can see they'd be useful for eg holiday when you won't have a hoover at the other end, but they're really difficult to squish the air out of.

Clothes come out horrifically creased, though, so I wouldn't recommend them for travelling, just long-term storage.
