Tumble drying- my mum argues that by dividing the load into smaller parts, the towels dry quicker and you get the job done faster.

I say it takes exctly the same amount of time if you put it into one big bundle because there is exactly the same amount of water to evaporate.

I'm not happy to be corrected though.

What do you think?

Smaller bundles and a dry towel.

your mum is right.

it's to do with available air circulation and surface area

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 25/05/2010 22:01

Oh poo.

Not telling my mam though.

But if you're using a tumble dryer you're using shed loads of electricity which costs you a bomb.

Hanging towels out to dry in this lovely sunshine we're having costs nowt and they smell lovely afters.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 25/05/2010 22:04

No way they are like scrubbing boards then and it takes away any mice washing powder smell! Tumbling them makes them all fluffy and soft and they keep their smell.

agree with the others - smaller loads.

We used to do the laundry at the care home overnight, and it was always smaller loads to get it done quicker.

Ah, but do you get the job done faster? I certainly don't!

Toddler and new born in the house
Take towels from machine
Put half in the dryer
Forget that the other half are still in a wet pile on the side
Come back few hours later
Empty dryer
Baby poos nappy
2nd pile still wet on the side
Go to bed exhausted that night
Return in morning to stinky wet pile of towel that need to be re-washed!

Far better to shove one big pile in the dryer while you have the chance (at least in this house anyway!)

Your Mum is right I'm afraid. I do a halfway house, drying mine on the line and then fluffing them up in the drier after (stick em on for 15 minutes and chuck in those funny spiky balls) Job's a good 'un

homebirthmummy4 · 26/05/2010 11:15

how about hang them out til almost dry then finish off with a 10min tumble to soften them?

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 26/05/2010 20:32

I agree with Livingbytheriver! This is how it works in my house!
