I have tried many times to solve this but its only getting worse with now 2 new kids...

  • what to do about clothes that are not quite dirty enough to go into the wash but maybe a little stained at the knees (kids) or perfumy (me) that will probably be used:
-either later the same week -later but not sure when (month after?)

Initially it was only my pile. Now its my husbands as well as the 2 kids. There's a pile for home clothes and one for going out and one for work. Except that its all in the same pile and its driving me crazy.
I've tried many things but interested to see what works for someone else.

erm, sound rather complicated tbh.
We sling all in one basket and i put washer on every other day.

simple....is always best imho

dreamingofsun · 17/05/2010 14:56

if poss we wear them till dirty - otherwise go in the wash. your method sounds very complicated - i couldn't get my head round that at all

BornToFolk · 17/05/2010 15:02

If I take something off that's not dirty enough to wash, it either goes on top of the washing basket if I plan to wear it the following day, or back in the wardrobe if not.

Sometimes the pile on top of the washing basket gets a bit big so I either sling it all in the basket, or sort it all out and put it away (depending on how lazy I'm feeling!)

AMumInScotland · 17/05/2010 15:08

If I'm not going to wear it the next day, it goes into the washing basket, because I can't be bothered trying to keep track of a stack of different things!

MadameCastafiore · 17/05/2010 15:12

I'd wash them all - wouldn't put them back into the wardrobe with clean clothes and I hate clothes lying about - all of mine know that if it has been worn and is not be3ing worn the very next day (in swhich case it goes over the bedstead) it goes in the laundry basket.

Geocentric · 17/05/2010 15:18

Not so dirty clothes -
Mine and DHs - on clotheshorse in bedroom until worn again or I give up and toss in the wash.
DCs - on chair in rooms or back in wardrobe if almost clean.

Downdog · 17/05/2010 15:25

I'm like Heidi Klum when it comes to the washing - you're either IN (clean so back in the drawer/closet) or you're OUT (in washing basket).

OH & DD take most space. I am dreadful at folding clothes & have been relegated to 2 boxes where my clothes are kept - in wardrobe. BOXES FFS!! It's a nightmare. We seriously need to move. OH taken over 90% of hanging space - resistance is futile.

Now wonder I feel like I look like shit - can't even see what I've got to wear.

Downdog · 17/05/2010 15:35

oh gosh its Good Housekeeping, not AIBU! Excuse me - consider FFs above to be deleted

Geocentric · 17/05/2010 15:35

DD changes outfits ten times a day - if I washed everything she'd have nothing left to wear!!!

thatsnotmymonkey · 17/05/2010 15:41

Wow! Back in the drawer/wardrobe.

I am so so surprised that this is even a big deal, I mean if they are clean enough to be worn again, then they are clean enough to rub next to the other clothes. Sheesh!

Does this make me a slattern?

ConnorTraceptive · 17/05/2010 16:03

Agree with thatsnotmymonkey. Kids clothes they keep wearing till they are dirty. Mine and DH's back in wardrobe.

abr1de · 17/05/2010 16:05

I leave not-quite-dirty-but-not-quite-clean clothes folded on the back of a chair.

I never wash clothes unless they really need it: it wears them out and wastes water and fuel.

wildstrawberryplace · 17/05/2010 16:21

I have a floordrobe.

I can see where I have been going wrong now.

doggiesayswoof · 17/05/2010 16:26

Well - I read on here a while back that putting worn-once clothes back in the wardrobe with clean clothes invites moths.

I can't remember why though.

For me and DH, we have stuff that's been worn folded and piled on top of the laundry basket. If it's still there a couple of days later, it goes in the wash.

DD and DS have a separate little IKEA box in one of their drawers for once-worn stuff. DD knows she is supposed to wear stuff out of that box when she gets changed out of her school uniform.

doggiesayswoof · 17/05/2010 16:28

I think clothes you have worn will have sweat on them - even a tiny tiny bit which is undetectable by humans will attract moths

Or that could be total fiction

thatsnotmymonkey · 17/05/2010 19:55

I have been living like a slattern for one score and ten (ahem, 14) now. No moths as yet!

sagalsmith · 21/05/2010 16:44

Only had time to see this now. Wow! Very interesting...

I just hate washing clothes that don't quite need a wash yet as I find it wasteful and the clothes look worn out so quickly.

Problem is I like wearing different things but am not a sweat-er but do believe the 'undetectable sweat' thing as mentioned by doggiesaywoof.

Still don't know what to do esp as starting part time job next week- even more worn once clothes...
