domestos, harpic, toilet duck or some sort of green friendly solution? I've just squirted some bleach down the loo but feel guilty about the nastyness of the stuff but yet i wanna feel like im killing the germs what with my lil un taking herself to the loo these days.

Usually just a cheapo version of toilet duck, left on then scrubbed off, and flash or whatever to wipe round the seat. Just my opinion but I think if your kids are touching the loo a lot it's important to get it really clean, you can be eco friendly in other areas of the house!

Having said that, I only use a bit of toilet cleaner, and a lot of elbow grease. My other half will pour half a bottle of bleach down if there are any "marks" rather than just use the loo brush. Now that's bad!

stofstg · 15/05/2010 11:25

yeah i try and be green friendly around the house generally but i always find myself buying domestos or toilet duck for the loo. I don't go squirting stuff down every day, more like twice a week. My other half wouldn't even know where the toilet duck is kept hehe

we recently changed to a white suite, and omg you really see what's on there.

i use bleach and hot water and scrub under seat with a brush

SawneyBeane · 15/05/2010 11:52

Sonilaa · 15/05/2010 12:05

harpic blue + brush in the bowl and under the rim and ordinary all purpose cleaner on seat and rim.

stofstg · 15/05/2010 14:50

yeah harpic is good. That one in the black bottle.

Ecover toilet cleaner in the bowl because we have a septic tank. We used to have a lot of bother with discoloration below the waterline (and I used Steradent for that) but we don't get it now. Lol at my mum clocking the Steradent and asking me since when had I had dentures!

Whatever hubby uses around the top (ecover cream) keeps corroding the hinges, we are on our 3rd pair in as many years. We are switching to hot water only for that bit now.

LolaLadybird · 15/05/2010 22:49

Love the Steradent tip Cruella. We have a sceptic tank so also use Ecover and have the marks below the waterline.

BettyButterknife · 16/05/2010 15:46

I didn't find the Ecover stuff to be any good, but have recently found Green Force limescale remover at ASDA which is absolutely brilliant.

Don't use anything too chemical-y anywhere in the house - I don't like it at all and I'm not really concerned about germs as long as things are kept clean!

yangste · 17/05/2010 10:50

Domestos spray bleach

Shaz10 · 17/05/2010 10:51

TeaOneSugar · 17/05/2010 22:48

Method Bowl Patrol

hellymelly · 17/05/2010 23:06

Ecover loo stuff in the bowl,or another eco make which I have forgotten the name of.And then ecover bathroom cleaner or bentlys organic bathroom cleaner around the seat and the rim.I clean the loo every day though.I do have marks slightly in the loo where scale of some sort builds up,I scrub at it with brushes (tooth and loo) and scourer pads but its still there.

BreevandercampLGJ · 17/05/2010 23:15

Full fat Coke.

alarkaspree · 17/05/2010 23:21

Baking soda. I don't really mind if there are germs in the loo.

abitlostandconfused · 18/05/2010 06:24

Toilet duck and ASDA or Flash wipes for around the seat etc. Can't bear having a used cloth in the house that's been used to wipe down the loo!

glacierchick · 18/05/2010 08:40

Ecover - but I also have a lot of marks below the waterline, which I scrub at now and then.

How does the steradent thing work then?

I might try that...

LIZS · 18/05/2010 08:43

dettox wipes and green domestos

MoChan · 18/05/2010 08:47

I generally use an eco-friendly cleaner, but it doesn't get rid of limescale, so every so often I give it a blast with Harpic black, which smells like chemical warfare. Plead guilty to using flushable toilet wipes for the seat, etc.

bonnymiffy · 21/05/2010 10:24

Likewise I'm curious about the Steradent thing, do you just drop one in and wait?? And coke, does it have to be coke, or can you use an "own brand" variety (cheaper option)

ArseHolio · 21/05/2010 10:33

Bleach and elbow grease.

florencerusty · 21/05/2010 21:53

bleach and lots of it!

Tiredmumno1 · 22/05/2010 14:31

I swear by harpic power plus, to elimanate all germs leave it down there for an hour. its great stuff
