Hillarys Blinds - are they any good?

I need to get some blackout blinds fitted to try and save my sanity (ds waking early!), and as we inherited the most minging curtains I was thinking of having new roman blinds made up with blackout lining.

I'm being lured by the 'half-price' sale ads that Hillarys are doing (I know, I know - they're not really 1/2 price). Are they any good/ reasonably priced? I don't really want to book an appointment and then get the hard sell on a product I don't really want!

Just reading your post has raised my blood pressure. I am still waiting for my Hillarys blinds to be installed, having paid them a considerable amount of money three months ago. They lost the order (but took the money). Then they seemed to lose the blinds. Then they found the blinds but seemed to lose the fitter. I have been on the phone to them day in day out, each time being told, "It's not our fault, madam, it's your local fitter". (Yes, but it's YOU who have my money and YOU who I have the contract with, you chumps!)

I have heard good things about Hillarys in the past, but their business model relies on the quality of the local fitter. In my case, they have seriously let me down (I have been living for two months in a new house with no blinds whatsoever). And, frankly, they weren't cheap (and I bought in the sale as well). I really, really wish I'd gone to John Lewis now.

Having said which, I must grudgingly acknowledge that they didn't do a hard sell on me when the sales advisor came round. I had initially thought I might want shutters, then went for the (much cheaper) blinds and he didn't push me on that at all.

We got them five years ago (also on a "special offer" price) and they were fine, still very happy now. I think hester is right and it depends on your local person.

I got blinds from here, and they were excellent and cheap, delivered really quickly.

Promise I don't work for them

I've never had any problems with them. We've been getting our blinds one by one as we can't afford to get them all done at once, so we've used them loads of times. They always ask for a big deposit and we always say no and hand over a tenner and they are fine with that. The blinds we have are very lovely too.

Heck hester - I'm not surprised you're furious. That's crap (and has put me right off using them tbh, as there's no guarantee that I won't end up with Mr. Useless as my local fitter). I hope you get them fitted soon.e

Tethers - thanks for your link. I think I'll go with them, and then I don't have to make a decision as to what colour blinds I want put up in the future. Unfortunately that means my minging orange curtains are here to stay

Thanks everyone else for your responses.

Hester - am so sorry to hear what a mare you've had. Did you pay on your credit card - can you get the money back for non deliver?

Just in case anyone wants hilarys blinds near Sevenoaks, Kent. The local fitter is very good. (Hope he doesn't let anyone down now that I've said that !

I found them very expensive. The only blinds included in the offer were really cheap ones withj a very limited range of colours/designs. When they come they push you to go for a more expensive range.

I got another company in and got a much nicer blind for less cost.

Incidentally when I didn't order from them they rang me up a couple of weeks later offering to reduce the price even more.
