Hi everyone,
I am currently cleaning my dads place as he is getting a little needy in his old age. Anyway the question is - what is the best product for cleaning limescale. His shower unit in particular is a little scusty! Horrid, I know. It needs a bloody good clean. . . any ideasplease!

sorry
I meant to say crusty. Perhaps I got crusty and scuzzy jumbled up!

I mostly use Viakal - its a sort of gel in a spray-gun. You spray it on and leave it a while then rinse off. You'll probably want to leave it for half an hour or an hour and see how much comes off, then have another go at whatever is left.

I've just been using a spray called Limelight, it's in a green bottle and melts away limesclale

White vinegar. Soak a cloth in it and then leave the cloth on the worst bits. You can also wrap it round taps. Come back in a couple of hours and scrub it away.

Or you can put it in a spray bottle with some water and tea tree oil.

If the shower head is blocked with limescale and you can unscrew it then do that and immerse in either Coca Cola or vinegar. Takes about 30 mins.

I second vinegar, which I buy in large three litre plastic bottles specifically for cleaning (ultra cheap!).

Or you can mix up some citric acid solution, which smells a bit nicer. (I buy it in big bags of crystals which you add to water, but I live with extreme hard water, so use it all the time, may not be worth it for a one off). I've also heard of people using a cheap cola from the supermarket (contains phosphoric acid), either way, pour it on, leave for a couple of hour, rinse off.
Magic!

Where do you get your three litre vinegars from glacierchick? I just use the 500ml bottles from the supermarket but bulk buying would be better as I get through a lot of the stuff!

Ecover Limescale Remover works well.

Limelight is v good but super-toxic; you can watch the liquid gel version fizzing away to remove the limescale. Ecover limescale remover much better for environment and works almost as well.
'Scusty' is a brilliant word. I think I'll use it in future to describe anything disgusting, crusty and scuzzy and in need of a bloody good clean.
