I'm after spoons and forks for my DS who is not great at feeding himself tbh. Thank you!

I have had the tommee tippee ones, and the Boots own brand ones, both were fine but the spoon on the TT ones is very shallow.

Get lots, they vanish out of the cutlery drawer IME

MadameCheese · 08/05/2010 19:52

Thanks minnie, I agree about the TT spoon

Look for forks that are reasonably sharp - I know this sounds perilous, but so many are so rounded and blunt they might as well be spoons. DD loved one set we were given that had adequate prongs to actually stab stuff

Adair · 08/05/2010 20:00

Agree. Go to your local pound shop, that's where I got the dc small knife, fork, spoon made of stainless steel rather than plastic.

Also agree that they vanish - where?!!

MrsBadger · 08/05/2010 20:03

ikea plastic
good pointy forks, knivs that cut

crazycrazy · 08/05/2010 20:09

Ikea do a lovely little set of mini stainless steel forks, knives, spoons and mini spoons. So they look like grown up cutlery, except smaller for little hands

LackaDAISYcal · 08/05/2010 20:16

We have a set that have little dimples on the backs where your forefinger goes. The fork is nice and sharp, the knife cuts and the spoon handle is shaped so that there isn't the need for the contortion that children always try and do with a straight handled spoon...

...now if only I could remember where we got them from

IMoveTheStars · 08/05/2010 20:20

Ikea plastic ones, but don't use them to cut up hot sausages or the fork prongs will melt.

DS has these and he loves them

MadameCheese · 08/05/2010 20:32

The sets are so expensive aren't they? Does a 2 yo really need a knife. I agree Lionstar about pointy forks, might look in pound shop. Went to ikea this week for cutlery and the shelves were empty, grrrr!

Yeah, DS started using his knife this Christmas, he can cut up soft things now with it at 2.5

littleducks · 08/05/2010 20:47

I second the pound shop/99p tip, picked up a nice stainless steel set in there

Though this may sound weird but if you have a 'spud u like' store near you the cutlery they give away with jacket potatoes is great, it is a deep 'sporky' fork so good for scooping too and knife cuts well, moulded out of strong plastic that survives dishwashing better than the john lewis set i had

Adair · 09/05/2010 08:19

Ds (21mths) has had a knife for a while. He wants to be just like us, and is obsessed with cutting things (we let him chop mushrooms etc).

I hate the Ikea plastic ones they are very unappealing. Though love the bowls/plates/cups.

LoveBeingAHungParliament · 09/05/2010 08:39

Agree re the ikea plastic ones melting if put into hot sausages.

btw the ones from I can Cook are the steel ones from Ikea (i spotted the logo one day [sado] )

MadameCheese · 09/05/2010 09:31

Oo Jareth and Adair my DS isn't as dexterous . littleducks I love jacket potatoes - huzzah!

Ds did very well with "fruit forks" and small coffee spoons from a local, independent ironmongers/cooking shop.

They're real, not too pointy but small enough to handle and we can use them for other stuff too. Harder to find a second use for the kiddy ones. Now he's 4 plus we have small set of our grown up cutlery from David Mellor. Expensive but lovley a design classic. They also do kids version for younger ones too. Not cheap I know ... Ikea def do varius kids ones, not just the plastic types, so stick with them if you need cheap version.
