how to get a mattress smelling fresh after 'accidents'?

Have posted this twice as wasn't sure where i'd get the right advise....
Can anyone give me a bit of help?... DC's are both out of nappies at night (DD just started all on her own 2 weeks ago) DS has a little washable mat thing under his sheet to protect the mattress, but if he's had an accident i sometimes forget to put it back on after it's been washed, and he's had a couple of accidents actually on the bed... DD1 hasn't got a bed mat thing yet, ordering one ASAP. Anyway- what i'm asking, DS's bed smells a bit of wee, despite stripping it as soon as i know he's wet and letting it air off all that day, and scrubbing the top surface... anyone know anything i can get rid of the smell with without just covering it in febreeze?

I have seen Kim (of Kim and Aggie) sponge the mark lightly using washing liquid then she put a towel over the wet bit and trampled on it. She then propped the mattress up and aired it all day.
Smells can be rid by sprinkling the area with bicarbonate of soda and hoovered off.

I use green aerosol dettol spray as it gets right inside the bedding and kills all germs, so also kills smell. Also try steam clean with upholstery attachment on a rug doctor. I did that when our cat weed on some new curtains I was about to hang! Didn't think it would work but they came out smelling completely fresh.

I always use a pet odour remover spray from the pet shop! They contain enzymes that digest all the remains of wee, poo & vomit and properly eliminate the smell. Also works a treat if someone's thrown up in the car.

I knew i'd get some answers on MN!! Thanks ladies!!

Think i'll try the washing liquid and bicarb option today... if it doesn't work go through the rest. We plan to buy new mattress's soon, but i'm just very put off my the musky smell i get a whiff off every now and again. Although it's raining... do you think it'll dry off enough to use tonight being propped up indoors?
