HELP ME.....DD has flushed an entire loo roll

TinyPawz · 03/05/2010 19:27

basically that is it but it seems to be stuck somewhere and everytime I flush (in a bid to try to flush it away ) the water backs up into the bowl

Any ideas?

Pull it out.

TinyPawz · 03/05/2010 19:38

Thanks FAB but I can't reach it...I think it has gone passed the bend but not entirely through the whole pipe

Tongs?

TinyPawz · 03/05/2010 19:43

tried tongs too and pushing/hooking it with a hanger

ps why is there a huge blank space between last post and new message box?

Not on mine there isn't.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/05/2010 19:45

Wire coat hanger job I think. Either that or a plunger.

TinyPawz · 03/05/2010 20:03

Tried the hanger and don't have a plunger....think i'm gonna have to get a plumber out tomorrow.

dear oh dear (wonders where to find the money)

Okay, before you do that - can you get to a DIY store or a builders merchant and buy a plunger and can of compressed air. One or the other may do it and will only cost you a tenner (and you ought to have a plunger FFS, you have kids, they do these things on a regular basis).

Other things to try - large bucket of water, pour from a height into toilet bowl to force flush through the pipes. DO NOT USE A BIGGER BOWL THAN YOUR BOWL CAPACITY!!!! Usually up to a 6 litre bucket is fine.

Does the water go down at all? If so you could try putting bio washing powder and boiling water down to break up the paper. But probably will not work (but hey it'll be a clean blockage).

TinyPawz · 03/05/2010 20:32

The water is slowly going down....I keep runnig up stairs and flushing the damn thing in the hope that the paper will disolve or at least totally moisten enough to be flushed away...

good tip about the DIY store, I'll do that tomorrow.

I'm amazed that so many people have plungers, we never had one when I was a kid....wouldn't have dared put a whole roll down the loo though

I agree with whomoved, definately try the bucket of water down there-the force usually clears the blockage(coming from someone who has entire loo rolls flushed on a regular basis!)

Spatchadoodledo · 03/05/2010 20:36

Someone said on here the other day that plunging one of those rag mops up and down works?? Worth a shot?

NumptyMum · 03/05/2010 20:44

DH sometimes uses chemical sink/drain unblocker, on the principle that it will dissolve organic matter... I don't think it's recommended, but could be worth a try if nothing else works (and before calling out plumber).

Alternatively (and more environmentally friendly) read this thread from the bottom upwards for other solutions...

Thank you lovely MNers....the blockage has shifted!!!

2 hours of flushing every 10mins has finally worked.

Panic over

OP posts:
CarGirl · 03/05/2010 21:38

I was coming here to tell you to use hot water as it will dissolve it quicker!

chipmonkey · 03/05/2010 21:46

Welcome to my world! ds4 does this on a regular basis. I boiled a kettle of boiling water down with some parazone, waited a few minutes and then flushed. The bowl filled right up again ( and OMG it wasn't nice [vom] ) but then it all disappeared with a big glug and the loo was working again!

TinyPawz · 03/05/2010 21:53

Kids are odd as hell

put your loo brush in a bin bag and seal around the top of the handle. use that as a plunger. very very effective.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/05/2010 22:12

glad you sorted it

whomovedmychocolate · 04/05/2010 08:07

Now off you trot and buy a plunger should be handed out in the delivery room IMHO (might help actually ).
