Maybe even one without water. like this?

Is this an eco-step too far?

Will visitors be horrified?

We have 2 young DS (3 & 5) and so with 3 men in the house it is probably a good idea, non?

But where will you, er, urinate?! Presumably you'll need a separate w/c too? Don't see the point in having two?

just looked at the link, I don't understand how the urine gets removed, as it says it is water-less and "doesn't need a flush"

Will he clean it too!?

Ponders · 26/04/2010 14:53

Well you'd need an actual loo for the men as well anyway, wouldn't you (I mean they don't just wee...)

Considering what the men in this house do to the loo/seat/floor I think it's a great idea (but also wonder about the waterless bit)

said · 26/04/2010 14:55

Oh god, we viewed a house with one once. Did put me off.

jamaisjedors · 26/04/2010 15:14

Well we have a toilet downstairs (and upstairs) already.

It would be in addition to the garden to them in a bid to save water.

The DS don't flush every time they go but then I usually flush after them because I don't like the wee hanging around iyswim!

Oh bleurgh, I do think it's a step too far, aren't they purely the domain of smelly blokes pub toilets? I'd have to take it out if I moved into a house with one. How about just changing the toilet into one of those with a small flush and a large flush?

ThisIsSpatchcocked · 26/04/2010 17:22

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!! Yuk. WHy does he want to? To save water? Other than that, He just being lazy not being bothered to sit down!!! How much water is it REALLY going to save?Surely the cost of installing it will not be recouped by savings in water bills for a long time?

jamaisjedors · 26/04/2010 17:23

Sit down? Does your DH sit down to wee?

He's a mathmatician, I'm sure he'll work out the numbers for himself!

Eww no I wouldn't like it. I'd be looking for the hot air hand dryer and the condom machine

jamaisjedors · 26/04/2010 17:27

We are in France, they might see it as a plus ?

Condom machine could be handy - a little hard to explain to the DS though - although on second thoughts, with 2 DS, possibly more useful than a urinal in years to come?

biddyofsuburbia · 26/04/2010 17:29

but you've made me

ThisIsSpatchcocked · 26/04/2010 17:33

yes, ok , just realise what I have written, I MEANT lift the seat!!

ThisIsSpatchcocked · 26/04/2010 17:33

Plus, as others have said, it would make me feel like I was in a pub!

OhFuck · 26/04/2010 17:34

How about you put some bark in a corner of the garden and see if you can train them to go there? Some sensitively planted hedging or a couple of trellises would ensure privacy.

jamaisjedors · 26/04/2010 18:09

They are quite well-trained in the garden although perhaps a dedicated area is a good suggestion - DS2 fell over in some nettles on his way back from a wee against the wall in a flower-bed.

He is still covered in a rash from them.

Shock
ThisIsSpatchcocked · 26/04/2010 18:13

BUt but but..why have a dedicated area? How hard is it to walk inside and go to the loo??

jamaisjedors · 26/04/2010 18:16

We have a very big garden.

So I don't have to see them do it.

Except when they come back with trousers at half-mast wailing and covered in nettle stings.

They LIKE weeing outside (although perhaps not in the winter) and to come inside they have to take their boots off at the door and cross the mansion house.

OP posts:
OhFuck · 26/04/2010 18:25

LOL and indeed ROFFLE at serious consideration being given to my garden suggestion

jamaisjedors · 26/04/2010 19:47

I missed a grin off my post OF!

All very serious - although I absolutely promise that DH's suggestion is dead serious, he went to an ex-colleague's house (who incidently had 2 boys, now grown-up) and poached the idea from there.

OP posts:
EricPicklesFatNeck · 26/04/2010 19:51

yucky. it isn't really eco. the amount of energy adn water needed to produce such a thing will cancel out any benefits in saving the odd flush.

weeing on a compost heap would be v. eco and produce excellent compost

FourArms · 27/04/2010 13:36

I let my DS2 wee on our compost heap... it does rot down quite quickly!

Miggsie · 27/04/2010 13:38

Can't he just use the sink?
