Has anyone got a carpet washer/shampooer they would recommend?

I think I would be better off buying my own carpet shampooer rather than hiring a rug doctor or similar a couple of time a year. i just wondered if anyone could recommend one?

I have a bissel one, it?s good but it?s huge. Ironically I wish I had just hired one as it take up so much space and probably won?t come out again until DC2 has finished weaning.

You also need to spend money on the shampoo stuff too, lat time it was about £16 a bottle and I needed a bottle and a half (perhaps I am just excessive).

not vax

tis crap and I wish I had taken it back right near the beginning of having it

I have a karcher one which is good. Don't have fitted carpets though, and space is not a constraint (it's quite big)

Hmmm ok maybe I should just hire one then?

i have a bissell one, it is quite big but i have the space to store it. i use it at least once a month.

it's years since i bought the shampoo, i just use a solution of white vinegar and water. if the carpets are particularly mucky then i add a tiny amount of stardrops to the mix.

i hate carpets and wouldn't have them again, however as i am stuck with them i find the bissell a necessity. (maybe we are a particularly messy family!)

I have a bissell proheat 2x too and I think its fantastic. Does the solution of white vinegar and water get the carpets clean? And what about vinegar smell? Cos if white vinegar does the job then I'll stop buying the bissell shampoo os its expensive.

Mine is a Bissel. I got a reconditioned one for £40 from their website.

I have a vax cylinder one (orange 6131 I think). It's ideal, cost £150 about 7 years ago & paid for itself several times over....

sfsfgh - i find the solution of water and vinegar cleans really well. if the carpets are particularly grimy i add a few drops of stardrops.

the room smells like a chippy while the carpets are drying but once dry it just smells clean and fresh. and no nasty chemical smell which i used to hate when i used carpet shampoo.

we have family members, and a dog, with allergies and asthma so i try to stick to natural cleaners as much as possible. i get through gallons of white vinegar!

I have a bissel too. I bought it with my sister. You dont need it all the time so if you can get somebody to go halfs or even thirds with you, it can work out really economical. It also means that its not cluttering up your hall/cupboard all year.

I dont use Bissel cleaner though, I use 2001 carpet cleaner for machines. It only costs about £2 a bottle and works just as well.
