How do you pronounce 'Ecover'?

Whoamireally · 22/04/2010 14:00

I am about to head into town to health food shop to refill my 5 litre vat of Ecover washing up liquid but, since I've never actually had to ask for it before am not totally sure how you say it...

Is it

Eeee-cover?
Or, Eco-vert in a sort of Frenchy style?

Would prefer to come across as seasoned eco-warrior rather than just green behind the ears

Eee-co-ver

TerryWogansTrousers · 22/04/2010 14:02

Eck-over here.

EricPicklesFatNeck · 22/04/2010 14:03

eee-co-ver aka grey pants

Flamesparrow · 22/04/2010 14:05

eeek over

Flamesparrow · 22/04/2010 14:05

Or just take it in and say "Can I refill this please?"

Whoamireally · 22/04/2010 14:06

Oh crikey, forgot about Echo-ver.....

FrazzleRock · 22/04/2010 14:08

eee-co-ver

Whoamireally · 22/04/2010 14:18

Eee-co-ver seems to be the most popular option then so I'll go with that ...although I am now more confused about how you are really meant to say it than I was to start off with

thumbwitch · 22/04/2010 14:35

Eec-oh-ver.

peachybums · 22/04/2010 14:49

Eee cover is how id say it in my yorkshire accent lol

Sonilaa · 22/04/2010 17:20

E-Cover
just like electronic duvet...

Whoamireally · 22/04/2010 19:49

Would you be suprised to know that I actually bottled it and just used the 'Can you refill this' line I did afterwards ask the lady in the shop how you said it and she said it's 'Eco-ver' and pronounced the 'ver' like the French for green - 'vert'.

Which makes sense really! Anyway, my 5 litre vat cost me £10 to refill which is probably the most I have ever spent on washing up liquid in one go

When I bought the vat new, about 5 years ago, it probably cost half that!

eec over

SweetApril · 23/04/2010 14:53

Ecover are running a TV ad at the mo and they're pronouncing eeek over, as flamesparrow said. I think eeko-vert is much more interesting!

NorbertDentressangle · 23/04/2010 14:57

Surely its Eeek-over?

Think of Eco-Warrior, Eco-friendly, Ecosystem etc -they are all Eeek-oh and all to do with the environment/green issues

giraffesCANdriveAcar · 23/04/2010 14:59

eeekover

CrankyTwanky · 23/04/2010 15:07

Eee-coe-vur.

Surely the "Ver" can only be pronounced one way? Unless you are saying "cover", as in blanket. Which is plain wrong.

Whoamireally · 23/04/2010 16:23

Norbert in that case should it not be Eeek-oh Vair if the stress is on the first and third syllables?

Sweet april I guess you are right Ecover themselves will be the ultimate judge so, saddo that I am, I've emailed them to ask them to settle the debate

Well, I have the definitive answer here! I have copied and pasted and removed names

Dear

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your enquiry in regards
to the pronunciation of Ecover.

As Ecover is an international company, it is pronounced differently
dependent on the country. For instance, in Belgium (our head office)
and France it is pronounced Echo-ver (more emphasis on Verr), however,
in the UK, we pronounce it as Eco-ver (eco = ecological, ver = as in
green (French).

But as long as our customer are enjoying our products, we are happy for
our name to be pronounced however they wish!

I hope this helps, however, if you have any further queries, please
do not hesitate to contact me.

Kindest Regards

Hooray, we now know.

It seems I was along the right lines then with the Eco as in eco-warrior/eco-friendly etc

CheeeseOnToast · 26/04/2010 14:40

I love that you emailed them to ask Whoamireally!

I have always wondered this, and usually say Eee-cover (as in the blanket) but looks like Ecko-Veh is the proper way.

SweetApril · 26/04/2010 21:44

I think it's bonkers that they pronounce it differently again on their own commercial. But I quite like that kind of bonkersness.

Well done, Whoamireally!

Whoamireally · 26/04/2010 23:02

Lol thanks...wasn't sure whether to be worried about the fact that I cared enough to email them in the first place
