Hi I need to buy a dustbuster to use in the car and around the home - I don't have animals just very messy twins. Can I have some recommendations please. tx

I can tell what what not to buy:

Dyson.

Takes four hours to charge and only lasts about 5 minutes.

Crap
Utterly crap

tx - that also helps have you bought a replacement

One that is cordless. Have a corded Dirt Devil and might just as well get the hoover out.

Looked at Argos catalogue the other day and there seem to be a variety for about £25...

I've also looked in the Argos catalogue but experience has taught me that its better to ask on mumsnet before buying

I think you might have to have a try-out. My mum has just bought one and it's incredibly heavy, to the extent that I doubt she'll ever use it!

Mine is a Black and Decker but the catching thing (sorry, lack of functioning word brain today) broke immediately.

I love my Dyson handheld. 6 minutes is plenty for quick jobs I think and the suction is so much better than more traditional handheld vacuums that you get through so much more anyway. I can hoover both settees and the stairs in 6 minutes before I need to charge it again. If I need to do some big job or other that takes longer than 6 minutes I get the big hoover out. The only problem I find is doing the car, where you are using a handheld for a big job because of the cordless aspect rather than because you only need to do a small job.

We ended up buying a proper vacuum.
A Miele cat and dog.
Thankfully John Lewis took the Dyson back - I love JL!

I must admit I was using it to clean the whole (very tiny) flat. We just don't have much space for a vacuum so thought this would be a good idea.

Like flowerybeanbag says - great for very small jobs - if you remember to charge it!
I would start hoovering then it would just stop. I had to wait four hours before I could use it, by then the motivation to hoover had gone

Many thanks for the info
