Ants - any tips on toddler safe removal from the house?

Hi, we have had a minor ant invasion. I can't see where they are coming in unfortunately somewhere near the front door. I noticed some piles of dirt between the paving slabs so i poured a kettle full of boiling water down there to try and kill the nest but they are now in the house.

I fear they may even be under it.

Does anyone know of a way of getting rid of them without risking poisoning my 19 mo daughter? I fear it will only get worse once they work out where the kitchen is.

borax is safe. You can get it in Tesco.

Thanks, will look into that - do you just sprinkle it around? do you need to attract them with sugar or something?

You sprinkle it. I doubly checked about the borax and it is used in some foods [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borax link]].
I put a little sugared water where they were really bad then sprinkled borax along the areas they were going to.

if you rub white vinegar around all your window frames and door frames and thresholds then it should prevent any more of the blighters getting in.

Talc also works, around your door frames. We had terrible problems with ants when I lived in Cyprus but the talc sorted it.
