Please de-mystify the purchase of a new TV - I've never seen so many acronyms

So we've decided to buy a new TV, and it will be a wall-mounted flat screen one.
I want to start researching models, prices, etc but need the basics explaining first!
What's the difference between full HD and HD ready?
What's the difference between LCD and plasma? We have a Sky I assume freeview is irrelevant?
Any recommendations for a 32" for about £300?

Thanks!

That was meant to be 'we have Sky so I assume freeview is irrelevant'!

full HD is 1080p which is the highest level (for instance PS3 games and BlueRay movies)
HD ready may not be as high resolution
LCD and plasma are just a different operating system, plasma is more expensive (used to be better quality but LCD have caught up)
I think you are right about the Sky bit but if you don't have sky HD you may want to think about getting one with a freeview HD viewer so you can see the HD bit.
Can't recommend any thou.
HTH (all from dh...i know nothing!)

Thank you, that's really helpful, although I'm still not sure I get the last part about Sky HD/freeview HD!
So LCD rather than plasma, full HD, poss with freeview viewer.
Can you get them with dvd players incorporated so we don't have to have a separate one (will discover this myself once I start looking, I guess!)?

Second what fruitshootsandheaves says about 1080 and full HD. The gadget show website is a good one for best quality tv with high/medium/low budgets.

We have Samsung and LG ones in our house, don't get an obscure brand, my mum got an ONN one from asda and it did not last a year!

Go for an LG if you can.

LG here

Samsung here
