Anyone tried washing a Disney Snow White dress?

Just wondered if anyone had ever tried machine washing one of these beauties?

It's DD1's pride and joy and it's filthy. It actually smells.

The label says sponge clean only but I fear it's gone beyond that...

Surely someone somewhere knows what might happen if I lob it in a 30 degree wash? Don't want to fork out 16 quid for another one if it all goes horribly wrong!

Thanks

Never tried it.

Could you try it inside a duvet cover or soemthign to try and protect it a bit?

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 15/04/2010 18:16

I'd pop it into a pillow case and use a wool setting on the machine.

I have done this with a Gucci top and a rather expensive (should have been I mean) wool dress, it was nerve wracking but they survived.

dd's is awful too, especially where the velcro has nicked it all over

anyway, so far i have just given the thing a bed bath now and again.

castlesintheair · 15/04/2010 18:18

I've washed ours (and all the other princess/fairy dresses) loads of times on 40. No problems.

EmmalinaC · 15/04/2010 18:31

Thanks!

I will give it a go. Might pop Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty in as well...

I love MN

Quick update... Aforementioned dress is just out of the machine (30 degrees/non bio) looking as good as new!

really??! i think i'll do dd's tomorrow.. did you do it straight in the machine or in the pillow case?

EmmalinaC · 15/04/2010 20:20

I just put it straight in the machine. The fluffy feathery thing on the front looks a bit bedraggled now but apart from that it's perfect.

Can't believe my life has come to this, but I am so thrilled to have read this thread. Tomorrow I will put a wash on and then get a life.

PiratePrincess · 15/04/2010 21:34

Queen I read on MN about putting fridge drawers and the washing machine soap drawer in the dishwasher.

Did it all yesterday, looks great!

EmmalinaC · 15/04/2010 21:55

Pirate that's not sad - it's inspired and I shall try it.

My washing machine soap drawer is well manky.

Emmalina you take out the washing machine drawer then use an old toothbrush dipped in bleach to clean the holes above the drawer.

Do it after you do the princess dress though

hellymelly · 15/04/2010 22:06

I have washed one,on a delicates cycle at 30.It was fine.

EmmalinaC · 15/04/2010 22:07

I'm sure I remember reading that I should save my old toothbrushes in my mum's Woman's Own. How I wish I'd heeded those wise women!

hand wash setting!

Mumsnet: the gift that keeps on giving.....

Have wondered for the longest time whether I dare wash the skanky, repulsive SW dress. Have just googled problem, found this (as predicted by DH) and so, emboldened, am off to have a go. Thank you to all those intrepid launderers that dared try for all our sakes.

silverfrog · 16/02/2011 19:43

dd23's Minnie mouse dress goes in the wash all the time - she is convinced it is a "normal wear" dress, so it gets plenty of use.

has been n the machine at least once a week, along with various mixed colours, for the last 3 months...

it (sadly) still looks absolutely fine, the bugger! Grin

silverfrog · 16/02/2011 19:44

er, that's dd2s dress.

I amy be contemplating a dc3, but will never, not ever get to 23 Shock Grin

Neena28 · 16/02/2011 19:48

Another vote here. All princess/fairy/nurse/dr/genie costumes get bunged in at 30/40 with non bio and a bit of softener in an attempt to keep them smelling fresher for longer!

All look pretty much as new.

EmmalinaC- the fluffy thing will refluff once it dry if you fluff it a bit with your hand!

BeatriceLaBranche · 16/02/2011 21:25

Grin @ DD23, made me look twice and then wonder what kind of goer superwoman you were!
