Ever wondered whether those cheapo Cookworks microwaves from Argos are any good?

Well mine is brilliant

It has two dials - defrost, low, med or high. Then how many minutes.

Simple. Like in the olden days. And cost about £30. It's only 700w but because it's small has a smaller area to cook, IYSWIM, so is powerful enough.

We've had fancypants ones with 93 different programmes & I never did work out what A3 or P3 meant etc. And the last one beeped five times when it had finished.
As you were!

I'm often at how cheap some of the Argos budget range is - things like irons and kettles for under a fiver.

When I used to work for a housing project for young people we used to buy it to kit the houses out as stuff got stolen or damaged so often.

We have a cookworks one. After ds1 set fire to one and then another one broke we decided not to spend a lot. I only really use it for doing veg and the kids jacket potatoes. Ours is touch control and I can't stand the loud beeps at the end but otherwise it is perfectly fine.

The one Ive got now is a fancy pants one, only cos I wasnt sure whether to brave getting a cheapo one, I dont know what half the buttons do, I only use it for heating up soup, beans etc.
It also beeps 5 times once its done and that does get on my wick.
We got it in the currys sale, it was half price at £50 so, well you can work out how much its really worth

Ditch it and get thee to Argos! I promise you'll be happy - ours is the cheapest.

It 'pings' when it's finished. Your one sounds like our old one, a Kenwood that cost IIRC about £80 from Comet. They told us that the old dial ones aren't made any more, that it's all touch control & programmes. You even had to put in the weight of the food in grams so it could helpfully work out the cooking time. So you'd guess & then have to prod the food anyway to see if it was done, so might as well cut out one step & just have the dial as before.

These gadgets are designed by men people who think that more hi-tech is always better.

Now, I want a phone that - wait for it - just makes calls & sends texts, easily. I've had my new phone since Christmas & still can't work it properly. Am I turning into a Grumpy Old Woman?
