dishwasher tablets

i've finally got my very first dishwasher (and i'm very excited about it) and now i need to buy tablets. I have absolutely no idea what i need to buy or if i need anything in addition to the tablets. I live in a hard water area and its an ignis dishwasher. If anyone can shed any light i'd be grateful as i need to get them tonight (i'll be the gormless looking one in the detergent isle).

Sainsburys Clean Home (their eco range) ones are v good and much cheaper than the brands. And they're all in one and wrapper dissolves so no need to unwrap.

AbbyLou · 15/04/2010 19:54

I use the cheapest of the cheap all-in-one tablets from Home Bargains. I have never added salt or rinse aid. My dishes come out sparkly clean every night with no residue or smears. I put cleaner through about once a month.

Indaba · 17/04/2010 16:29

Had same advice from my dishwasher man to, Mrs Flux.....ie always use salt and rinse aid, no matter what the tablet box says.

ChasingSquirrels · 17/04/2010 16:33

i use tesco value, fill up the salt when it tells me to and have never used rinse aid.
v hard water area.

I buy five in one tablets, so I don't need all the extra salt and rinse aid etc. Sometimes I buy cheapy ones for just glassses and cups and then the more expensive ones I use for greasy Sunday roast type pots, plates etc.

Hi I use fairy tablets. for some reason all the other makes (especially finish) don't dissolve fully in my dw but not sure if it's because it's not a full size dw.

The pound shop do rinse aid, as do savers and homebargains that has the same active ingredients as finish. 500ml for a £1.

I've been using it for ages with no difference in results.

You always need salt, pound shop do finish salt but I use aldi salt. You cant use table salt either.

Half a cup of soda crystals on a hot wash will clean it all out inside.

belleoftheball12 why would anyone want to use expensive P&G crap like Fairy Platinum.
I detest Proctor and Gamble. The biggest corporate animal abusers in the world.
So sod off with your advertising of that company.

LaAmanda · 17/06/2012 05:32

Don't waste your money on rinse aid. Use white vinegar instead - it works fantastically and no horrible chemicals.

MarySA · 17/06/2012 13:16

I use the Fairy ones. My dishwasher is ancient. So they are by far the best I've found. The cheap ones are hopeless. Actually, it would probably be cheaper to invest in a new dishwasher now I think about it!

Uberly · 17/06/2012 14:52

I used to buy Finish All in 1 (lemon) but I find that Sainsburys Basics do just the job too!! Sooo much cheaper!

I also buy store brand rinse aid and salt.

Like others have said, rinse aid about once a week, salt once a month (sometimes once every two months...I wait for the indicator light to come on).

I'm going to try white vinegar for cleaning next time. Cleaners can be a bit pricey.

Also, look out for free samples. Got 10 Finish Quantum tablets for free :o

Will still stick with Sainsbury's basics though

Asda Smart Price tablets, no salt, no rinse, no nothing lol 3 years and never had a complaint! Everything comes out squeaky clean Smile

ChristieF · 18/06/2012 18:12

I just buy all in one tablets and dishwasher salt when the machine tells me it needs it (red light comes on). I used Finish tablets for over 20 years but stopped lately as they seem to have changed the formula and the dishes come out smelling. No Finish for me anymore. Now I use Aldi own brand as rfecommended by Good Housekeeping or Which (can't remember which one).

ChristieF · 18/06/2012 18:15

And the machine is new so that can't be making the dishes smell can it? I also think Finish are a ridiculous price. They're only washing dishes.
