Does anyone use it?
We have just had to get a new washing machine as the old one had packed up and I wondered whether it was worth getting some Calgon?
Do washing machines really 'live longer with Calgon'? Does it mess up the clothes with prolonged use?

If you work out how much a packet costs, times it by how many packets you will actually use it works out cheaper to buy a new washing machine (I suppose this also depends on what the water is like in your area aswell though).

I bet you can get descaling stuff for washing machines from Lakeland for a fraction of the cost.

We live in a very hard water area.
Will have a look in lakeland though, thanks.

yes I use it because the water here is so hard it leaves limescale deposits on the sink after just a couple of days.

Tried using the cheapo versions but they don't dissolve properly in the detergent drawer, they just crumble into a soggy mess.

I don't think you need to add it to every wash though.

I asked my washing machine repair man this recently. He said the main problem with limescale deposits was on the heating element and that only costs about £10, so he thought not. I said what about the TV advert with the limescale on the drum and he said it would take about 20 years (in London) for it to look like that so not to worry about it. Have been trying to wean myself off Calgon ever since.
