I've often wondered about deliveries to flats and whether they would bring all the way up to your floor.Or do you collect from the ground.

I think if they have the crates on a trolley and they have used a lift, I would be disinclined to tip.

However, if it's crate by crate up the stairs I would.

Rubbish at helping aren't I? Sorry.

AvadaKedavra · 03/04/2010 10:31

No I wouldn't tip, they get paid to do it, it's their job and you won't be the only person in a flat they are used to it.

Then again I never tip taxi drivers/hairdressers etc anyway, maybe am just a tight arse

BeastofBodmin · 03/04/2010 10:32

youcantlabelme

when we lived in a flat sainsburys, Ocado and Tesco all delivered up three flights of stairs for us. I did tip.

noddyholder · 03/04/2010 10:32

Oh I don't know there is a small lift only fits two people! But is a low rise block and the stairs seem do able for most of our friends etc I think I will have to see how knackered he looks! Then decide but then how much??????/AAAAAh

BoB - yeah, it makes sense to me to do that. Would you if there had been a lift though?

Cadelaide · 03/04/2010 10:36

I wouldn't tip, I don't think it would occur to me tbh.

I'd be gushingly grateful though.

noddyholder · 03/04/2010 11:28

Still not decided have two pounds on teh hall shelf and not sure whether to give it!

OP posts:
Cadelaide · 03/04/2010 11:30

Nope.

Just thank effusively for hauling it up the stairs.

You might start a trend if you tip and I really don't want to start tipping the tesco guy

Cadelaide · 03/04/2010 11:30

I don't think he'd expect it, tbh.

noddyholder · 03/04/2010 11:58

thanks x

What did you do? I would bever ever think to tip, but I can kinda see your point... Stillmy house is a breaze for them, so maybe yours balances it out?

Molesworth · 03/04/2010 12:16

There was a thread on here the other day about this (can't remember the title now though, sorry). Anyway, someone posted to say that delivery drivers are not allowed to accept tips, and that accepting tips is a sackable offence!

I've never thought about tipping delivery drivers tbh. I do live in a flat, but I always carry the shopping up from the ground floor myself (kitchen's only on the first floor though).

noddyholder · 03/04/2010 12:19

Ok he has just been and didn't see the lift but didn't accept a tip even though I offered!I was very thankful though

Cadelaide · 03/04/2010 16:48

Excellent. A good result all round.

mumdrivenmad · 05/04/2010 07:18

I know that at Asda they are not allowed to accept gratuities

littledawley · 05/04/2010 07:23

I've just started a thread on this!! I do tip and certainly did when I lived in a flat.

KAEKAE · 05/04/2010 21:08

No, I wouldn't... you pay a delivery charge and I think that's slightly expensive as it is!!

Mooos · 05/04/2010 23:48

Certainly not. Tipping is a horrible nasty thing which should be outdated. Everyone should be properly paid. I even remove the "option service charge" from restaurant bills and don't pay that.

noddyholder · 06/04/2010 00:40

I doubt it is considered nasty by those recieving them

SusieCarmichael · 06/04/2010 00:51

i know its a bit different but i do bar work and while i don't expect to be tipped, its very nice when people do because it makes you feel they appreciate the job you are doing, if you can afford to tip then i think its a nice thing but if you can't then don't.... i always tip the waitress/waiter at a restaurant as long as they are friendly and give good service

missmama · 06/04/2010 01:52

When I lived in a flat (2 lots of stairs) and it was my regular driver I would send him off with a bottle of beer in each pocket.
