Blackout linning keeps the draughs out or you can use interlinning.

BLackout lining is also thermal but I think interlining is warmer. More expensive though, as obviously you need that sewn behind the lining so more work.

I have interlining in our curtains...MIL hand made them for us. They also seem really think and luxurious.

I consider them an investment...like losft insulation. They really do amke a diffeence to the warmth of the house, and we have double glazing.

I've never done it myself but I've heard of someone buying cheap fleece from Ikea and then cutting to size and sowing onto back of curtains. I suppose if you bought a neutral colour it could look okay as most curtain backs I notice are cream or white. I might actually try this myself for next winter.

I bought Laura Ashley material & went to a local haberdashery shop for advice about lining. They suggested black-out material. I asked the lady behind the counter about getting them made up (because the material is a bit stretchy & I knew I might mess it up). She said 'Bring in your material & I'll make them for £30!' It was well worth it, she did a classy job.

Amazing difference since we changed to interlining we had blackout lining before but interlining has made such an amazing difference.
