leather sofa's - easy to care for?

We currently have lightish coloured fabric sofa's that drive me mad, the cat constantly covers them with muddy paw prints, if I put throws on them to stop this happening every time someone sits down they look messy. Don't get me wrong I'm not that houseproud but it ends up looking such a mess it drives even me mad! We are looking for a 2nd hand darker sofa to at least hide the paw prints & finger prints. My dp hates leather sofas, he hates the feel of them but my argument is that they are wipeable & easier to look after. Am I right?

They do wipe clean depending on the quality of the leather. The problem we had was our spaniel wouldn't stop chewing it.

Yes your right
I shant go back to fabric until DS is 25 and all 3 cats are dead.

The only drawback i have found is that they can be cold on bare skin. Solved that by sitting on a cushion!!

Yeah I agree with Kathyjelly, I have found my leather sofa so much easier to look after, as it does just wipe clean when necessary. Unfortunately our two kitties love material and leather sofas so we've had problems with both kinds but I must say, the leather got less damaged by the naughty chaps! Liz

Yep. Leather sofa and a nice snuggly blanket to throw over.

I'd love to have a fabric sofa, but have got leather because it's so practical and easy to look after.
Although, I will say I'm not sure about pet claws.

I do like a fabric sofa (our neighbours have one and I love snuggling up on it when we go there...) but we have leather because we spill . When we ordered it from M&S they gave us the swatch book to choose the leather and I asked the assistant, 'which one can we spill a cup of tea on?' so he flipped to 2 different colours and said 'these ones' and we picked one. They really do wipe clean, it's fantastic - we've spilled whole plates of spag bol, wine, beer - you name it - and they look new still after 5 years. We have 2 cats and they've never even tried to claw the sofas, they prefer the carpet! The leather of our sofas is quite thick and I don't think they can be arsed trying to get a decent claw of it tbh.

I have a soft leather sofa, lovely when I didn't have kids but a blooming nightmare now. It's brushed soft leather and so you can't just wipe it down unlike hard leather...and liquid doesn't roll off like it does with a hard leather sofa.It shows up scratch marks too. I got mine from Thomas Lloyd, horrid customer service, but good quality.
