do you soak your reusable nappies?

i thought there was a dedicated nappy board but i cant find it so i am posting here. please feel free to redirect me if appropriate.

when i take off a nappy i flush the poo and put the nappy in the nappy bucket and i pour vinegar over it to neutralise the urine. i have never had any problems with this but my washing machine has been broken for about a month now and my mum is complaining that she keeps finding poo in her machine after i have washed my nappies in it.

she reckons i should be rinsing and pre-soaking them whilst in the bucket.

what do you all do and what should i do to stop this happening? i use reusable liners and wipes but there usually isn't that much poo on them after removing most with the liner and then flushing.

I do what you do (except for the vinegar) and never find poo in the washing machine.

My mum is horrified that I don't soak my nappies though! And also that they are not bright white.

Could it be your mum just has an 'issue' with the cloth nappies?

There is a cloth nappies board, I will try to find a link for you

General chat thread about cloth nappies here

thanks neenz, yeah she cannot understand why i would ever want to "wash pooh, when you an bin it"

i just laugh and say "the fact that you say that tells me you will never get it"

i will head over to that thread now and post there.

I never soaked (why would you want to have a bucket full of pooey water??), but then I always sometimes left the poo till it had dried a bit as it made it easier to peel off into the loo. Admittedly I'm left with rather stained nappies, but I'd rather than than poo in the washing machine.
Although surely you'd have to leave actual lumps of poo to have it left in the machine after a full rinse, then proper wash, then extra rinse nappies cycle [crap washing machine emoticon ymmv]

thats what i dont get, i make sure all the poo goes in the loo and i rinse the liners so the most poo theres going to be is just staining and certainly not enough to notice it in the machine after a full wash. (i think she makes things up)

Sometimes I get a little bit of muck in the rim when I open the washing machine door, so maybe it is that? I just wipe it up with a bit of kitchen roll. Everything else gets drained away. And like you, it's not as if there is loads of poo on the nappies cos it all goes down the loo.
