Have run out of carpet cleaner solution for the Vax - what else can I use?

Was thinking a solution of detergent (think I've got bio atm) - would that work?

Very hot water, bit of washing up liquid and bit of generic household cleaner. That's what I use!

i have a bissell and for years have used a mix of white vinegar and water. occasionally i will put a tiny amount of stardrops in the mix - but only if the carpets are really grimy.

i find the vinegar much better than carpet shampoo, i always felt the shampoo left a residue. and i hate the chemical smell. vinegar is a great deodoriser and, once the carpets are dry, they just smell fresh and clean - not a whiff of vinegar.

I have used washing machine liquid in mine and the carpets were cleaner than with the vax liquid.

I did them this afternoon with a couple of teaspoons of bio detergent - they came up brilliantly, and so will never again be spending a fiver on one bottle of the 3 in 1 stuff. I saw vinegar recipe on another website - might give it a go too.

I'm a happy bunny tonight (who really should get out more)

One of my work colleagues swears by star drops - apparently better than the Vax branded cleaner, one big bottle costs about £1 and lasts ages.

You can also get other brands of carpet shampoo in DIY sheds and larger supermarkets.

oops, a long-dead thread has been dug up by a grave-robber from Vax.
