obv i need to re-wash the washing but is there anything i need to do to minimise damage to my washing machine? ie a separate cycle with anything in particular in it to help dislodge stuff before i put clothes in again? cant believe this has happened!

Can you just clarify more. i.e. was it a reusable which has (sorry if tmi) spread poo all over the other washing? or was it a pull up/disposable that has kind of disintegrated and possibly spread poo all over?

Do you mean a disposable nappy? Has it burst?

If it's just poo then the machine will be ok. Most of it will disolve, the rest will largely consist of very clean raisins and similar (dh has a repulsive habit of sticking heavily soiled pants - not his own I hasten to add - straight into the washing machine).

If it's the gel you're worried about, again I imagine it will pretty much go down the drain but not positive about that.

sorry for not being more clear. it was not a reusable (though i did use them until recently!). it is a burst disposable nappy. i am worried about the gel clogging up the system inside my machine.

pretty sure there was no poo- nappies onl worn at night here so just the wee-filled gel that concerns me

I would do a hot empty wash for at least an hour, just to make sure it's gone, and then probably do a towel wash or something after that.

shonaspurtle · 21/03/2010 20:37

I think it'll still be ok. Ds used to occasionally get the granuals stuck to his skin if he had a very heavy disposable nappy and iirc they stayed separate rather than sticking together. I think there's a maximum amount they swell as well.

onepieceoflollipop · 21/03/2010 20:37

I don't know for definite

onepieceoflollipop · 21/03/2010 20:38

shona I recall that happening to dd on the odd occasion with a very heavy wet nappy. The granules were very small and separated, not in a big clump.

shonaspurtle · 21/03/2010 20:39

wtf's a granual? Granules.

nowwearefour · 21/03/2010 20:40

thanks. i knew there was a reason i used reusables!

Urgh, accidental nappy washing never good! Thanks for reminding me that I stuck a (washable) poo-ey nappy in the nappy bucket yesterday and must remember to 'empty' it before I stick the washing on today though! (Have twice washed a poo-ey liner now, you think I'd learn!)
