Tried and tested methods for removing sweat stains and smells

I need hints and tips to remove sweat marks and smells from DH's work shirts.
I have tried using washing liquid neat on the stains, Imperial Leather soap on the stains and bicarb of soda in the machine when washing the shirts.
I have had some success with each method but nothing seems to remove the stains for good.
DH has just bought new work shirts and I want to keep them looking and smelling good.
Any hints and tips gratefully received.
Thanks.

You could try soaking them overnight in a solution of soda crystals and a capful of teatree oil.

Wash them hot and don't expect them to last forever. Nothing can withstand being in a man's armpit for that long - it's against nature.

Aren't sweat smell caused by bacteria? I just got some Vanish and it says it kills 99.9% of bacteria, so I'm hoping it'll help DH's sweaty pit shirts.

Sorry, not tried and tested, but fingers crossed!

Its also under arm deoderant that is part of the problem. It has aluminium compounds in that form a sort of hard deposit like limescale.

I like to instruct DW to boil wash them now and then but also get a new set of shirts once a year to wear with suits etc and take the old ones for wearing under jumpers if the collar is OK.
