How do you clean your windows?

Btw I am a total slattern, just to put that out there. I have tried the spray type efforts and been rewarded by streaky windows. Even my current glass wipes plus window cloth method isn't very effective.

You don't seem to be able to buy the old fashioned windowclean pink stuff, which is what I grew up with. How the fuck do you get clean streak free windows???

With minimum effort I may add

Window cleaning man lol x

ShinyAndNew · 10/03/2010 00:35

You need a window cloth. I have a Vileda one. Amd then I just window spray.

Who cares about streaky windows anyway? Life is too short for me to bothering about streaky windows. So long as you can see through mine I'm happy.

No need for cloths - window spray or white vinegar and scrunched up newspaper with a little bit of elbow grease produces sparkling smear-free windows.
The newspaper is quite amazing

I use old newspapers & white vinegar. Streak free everytime & costs about 14p to do all of them.

jumpingbeans · 10/03/2010 15:47

I love the smell of old fashioned windowlene, the thick pink gunk. sad old bint i am

mumdrivenmad · 10/03/2010 17:23

I use microfibre cloths one wet to wash and one dry, also fab for televisions and mirrors ect

paulaplumpbottom · 10/03/2010 17:26

Windoline and Newspaper

ChippyMinton · 10/03/2010 17:32

I have a man for the outside and a lady for the inside

Or an E-cloth & water.

lborolass · 10/03/2010 17:32

I was going to ask the same question yesterday and didn't get round to it.
I've tried using newspaper but I still get streaks - how exactly are you meant to do it?
I'll try anything as it really annoying me now that my kitechen is getting the sun in the afternoon so I'll be off to get some Windowlene tomorrow.

lovechoc · 10/03/2010 17:47

I clean the outside with soapy water (washing up liquid) and dry them either with a squidgy or kitchen towel.

For the inside I clean them using a cloth and window cleaner you get in most supermarkets. Sometimes there are streaks but like someone else said life is too short to worry over such trivial matters. As long as you know you've done the work, just relax about it IMHO.

bosch · 10/03/2010 17:50

Top tip - never wash windows when its sunny - that is, if you use a product (rather than just water and an e-cloth) it will always dry streaky, ime. (am however convert to water and e-cloth unless windows are seriously dirty)

MisSalLaneous · 10/03/2010 17:50

"I have a man for the outside and a lady for the inside" Fantastic!

When I do a proper clean, I use a little dishwashing liquid in warm water, a little white vinegar, and dry with newspaper.

When I'm in a rush, I use windowlene spray and newspaper.

LIZS · 10/03/2010 17:59

Diluted white vinegar - spray and e-cloth indoors, a sponge and wiper for out.

SparkyToo · 10/03/2010 21:07

I'm intrigued to read everyones answers! I've never heard of using white vinegar and newspaper etc!

I give them a bit of a wash with warm water with a bit of Fairy in it. The use my wet and dry E-cloths - which I find are really good!

displayuntilbestbefore · 11/03/2010 00:09

Another tip is to clean the outside and inside in different directions - ie clean in vertical strokes on the outside and horizontal strokes on the inside and that way if there is a smear you can tell if it's on the inside or outside by the direction of the smear.

God I sound like a window cleaning jobsworth

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 11/03/2010 01:16

So newspaper doesn't leave ink smears? I'd have thought it would.

I use Windex and paper towels, but it's not perfect.

displayuntilbestbefore · 11/03/2010 01:20

Ink smears? No.

Bonnyandborris · 11/03/2010 14:14

I clean mine with stuff from Lakeland, Ungers professional window stuff and a very basis squeegee thing with a wipe on one side and a sponge on the other, I'm no domestic goddess but I get a smear free result with not much effort...

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/03/2010 14:18

I clean my windows grudgingly. You would understand if you saw the size of them.

Seriously though, fairy liquid in warm water and then dry them off with a nice clean cloth.
