Gah it was minging. Well nothing very terrible, except lots and lots of dust.

In theory I move the beds every so often - big clean upstairs is on a Sunday and moving a bed to clean behind it is on the rota of things to do then - like moving DS1's chest of drawers etc.

But it looked like it was months since I had done it. Oh dear.

Anyone else such a slattern? Or do you "do" under your beds every week or two?

(should add that it's also packed out with clothes we are not using atm (eg too small for DS1, too big for DS2) so it's not the easiet job, but still am shocked at own slatternliness)

Oh my god, are you meant to clean under beds??? No-one told me. Oh well, we've only lived here 6 years!!!

BackstreetsOfNaples · 28/02/2010 16:33

We once moved the bed and found a half eaten blue tit underneath.

The cat had been dead for three months.

yellowcircle · 28/02/2010 16:34

My bed has not been moved since we moved into this house.

bargainhuntingbetty · 28/02/2010 16:34

Faffmaff, my sentiments exactly LOL

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/02/2010 16:35

My bed is a wooden frame with tall legs for just this reason. I tend to sweep out and mop under it (without having to move it) every week.

I used to have a lower one and had storage bags under it, the amount of filth that collected was crazy

Clary · 28/02/2010 16:39

OK you are making me feel better (except DWP) - naples, half a blue tit, nice!

It would be better if our bed were not crowded out with bags of clothes, but we have nowhere else to put them!

Oh I am a slattern! but clean bedlinen and not sleeping 2 feet from a dust heap is one thing that is very important to me hehe

Just don't look at my kitchen tiles....

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/02/2010 16:42

(I chose matt grey to hide the dirt hehe)

Bonsoir · 02/03/2010 11:01

We have parquet floors and, if you open the right windows, it is possible to create a draught that conveniently blows the dust out from under the bed into neat dustballs, ready for hoovering .

Poledra · 02/03/2010 11:04

I had that, Bonsoir, in a house where the back door opened directly into the living room. 'Twas fine till you had guests on a lovely sunny day - there would be a little breath of wind and all the dustbunnies would come running out to play from under the sofa

wheelsonthebus · 02/03/2010 11:10

ha ha bonsoir - that's the perfect slummymummy tip (not suggesting you are one of course

happysmiley · 02/03/2010 11:21

Consider yourself lucky. Last time I hoovered under the bed, I found what I thought where maggots. They were actually moth larvae, but all totally disgusting.

DH is now in charge of hoovering under the bed at least once a week. I'm too scared

BigBadMummy · 02/03/2010 11:29

Was the three month dead cat under there too? backstreet.

We have a high legged bed (ie lots of space under it) but I couldn't tell you the last time we Hoovered under it. There is so much crap and rubbish (well not proper rubbish, old shoes, paperwork etc) that I am not sure I could get under there with the Hoover.

I am such a slattern.

jenduff · 02/03/2010 11:38

Well I hope you've learnt your lesson and will desist from such thorough cleaning again and putting us slatterns to shame
