New cleaner v slow... WWYD?

Our new cleaner started 5 weeks ago now and I am noticing that she is much slower and has less attention to detail than our old cleaner.

Is 5 weeks enough for her to get to know the house?

She is much older than me and I don't want to patronise her but certain things really bug me!

I have already had to tell her that I expect the insides of the windows/glass doors to be cleaned every week as she was not doing this.

She is also not getting through nearly as much ironing as the last cleaner, perhaps she is spending more time cleaning thus less time for ironing?

Should I have a word with her?

Can I tell her to speed up?!

She has 5 hours to clean a 3 bed/2 bath house and iron bedding/clothes. We have no clutter and the house is not untidy.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Wow -- she irons sheets?

5 hours, wow our poor cleaner has 3 hours to do 4 bedroom/3 bathrooms and the occasional ironing.

Do you have a list of what she should be doing, we have one and it helps.

But cleaning is a job like any other and some people are more naturally suited to it than others. Unfortunately I have never had the experience where a cleaner has got better over time, usually the other way round, so if after 5 weeks its not working it is probably time for a change.

I will make a list rookie , but it will be an awful conversation! She is v experienced and cleans full-time for a living. That's why I'm so about it all.

I don't think my standards are unreasonably high but I am paying her more than the last girl and she is doing a worse job.

Eeeek! I HATE confrontation!

Is she through an agency, if so then don't bother having the chat, just give it up as a bad job and get someone else.
Actually even if she isn't I'd just give her notice anyway ( emboldened by saturday night wine) You are paying her to do a job that she has experience of and isn't meeting the standards you require therefore think of some feeble excuse ( as I hate controntation too) and give her notice.

I have been saved the confrontation!

We are moving house in 6 weeks or so and she only works in our current village so she won't want to drive 30 minutes to the new house.

Hurrah!

It is a bit extreme to move house to avoid firing the cleaner

PDR · 02/03/2010 09:01

Haha! It was on the cards anyway

The lengths I will go to, to avoid confrontation eh?

Seriously must make a list for when I hire the new person though.
