Greaseproof paper/baking paper -any difference?

And which is best for wrapping cakes in to keep them fresh for a day or two?

I made meringues on one and they completely stuck to it but trying to remember which - think it was baking paper. We were literally scraping off what we could but basically it was a disaster.
I now try to greaseproof. I guess that's fine for wrapping cakes/sarnies etc in. I use clingfilm for cakes or my huge German airtight cake carrier.

never heard of baking paper - I use parchment which is like super greaseproof. Works really well for all things. But agree with Lucie that airtight box works well for cakes.

oh - it may have been parchment that stuck to the meringues. I think I should have greased it first!

Luciemule; cling film stops cakes and bread from breathing so encourages damp mould I always put some kitchen paper in a plastic bag that i'm storing bread etc. in.

i think the tins are the best though 'cos i hate waste!

I like the baking paper you can get in health food type shops it works as parchment as well.

Price is a difference, greaseproof paper is much cheaper. Luciemule, to prevent sticking, run the paper under water before you put it on the baking tray. Meringues won't stick then.

good tip Maggiew.
Clingfilm is fine for a couple of days though. I always wrap my banana bread in it and it's okay for a couple of days (or less if DS (5) finds the cake and carves it up with his fingers!)

For storage - no difference. Cling film is best for sticky cakes like banana bread, golden syrup cake, ginger cake, as the cake gets more and more sticky the longer it's wrapped.

The best thing I ever had was an old Tupperware cake holder, brilliant thing even if it was all yellowed with age, cakes lasted ages in it and stayed nice and moist. I'd love to know if they still sell them cos mine got squashed when we moved house!
