Put some pasta on. Forgot about it. All water gone - very very black looking in base of pan. Can't face examining it any further at this stage

try boil some water in it with bi-carb and or a lemon

BariatricObama · 23/02/2010 14:04

don't worry your pan i s now 'vintage'

Saltire · 23/02/2010 14:05

You could try some biological washing powder with boiling water and bring to teh boil them simmer (remebering to remove from heat). Or leave it to soak in the washing powder.
it has worked with my pans and grill and oven tray before

we rescued a charcoaled le crueset pan by soaking overnight in fairy & boiling water then using good old elbow grease, hard work though!

MadreInglese · 23/02/2010 14:06

lol @ vintage

hmc · 23/02/2010 14:07

lol 'vintage' or just plain knackered?

Saltire - did your pans retain their non-stick qualities?

Soak overnight with a dishwasher tablet and some water.

snigger · 23/02/2010 14:09

Agree with the dishwasher tab, also putting on gentle heat to tick over - I rescued a caramelised Le Creuset this way, so it's doable.

JumpJockey · 23/02/2010 14:10

I've done this too Soaked it for ac ouple of hours, then scrubbed gently with a non-stick pan scrubber thing, repeat about 4 times. Each time I got a bit more of the yuck off, and eventually it was back to normal. It still has little shiny lines visible in the base where the spaghetti was, but it works absolutely fine.

Saltire · 23/02/2010 14:13

The frying pan did, but the others weren't non stick, so thinking aobut it they might not work! Although it has worked with non stick roasting and baking tins

itshappenedagain · 23/02/2010 14:18

tey putting cola in it, put it on low heta nad simer til boliling, when this haoppens rub with pan brush ( or whatever its aclled) should come off.

hmc · 23/02/2010 14:28

Thanks all, I feel empowered and brave enough to embark on a rescue plan now

I've had mine for 25 years with lots of mishaps! If soaking in Fairy doesn't work, use a brillo (lightly) then bleach.

mumdrivenmad · 10/03/2010 18:16

I boil wash some things every now and again, and I use the whizz oxy powder, and I have found that a very pleasant side effect of this is that the pans also get a very good cleaning.

RustyBear · 10/03/2010 18:21

I have burned pasta so often in the last 4 years, that DD now calls it 'Mumsnet pasta'

I always use washing powder & boiling water & soak overnight & it comes off easily next day.
