Quick question re prepping house for cleaners

So sorry this is such a boring thread...!

When your cleaners come and you want them to clean/ polish surfaces which have stuff on them (e.g. lamps/ ornamenty stuff/ stuff which has no home) do you remove the stuff before they arrive, or leave them to do that?

Your answers will make the difference between my going to bed in 30 mins and going to bed closer to midnight!

TIA

No. They are hired to clean and tidy the house. Put it this way, if you hire gardeners, will you rake and weed the garden prior to them coming?

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!

I am SO excited to have someone else coming to clean my house while I'm out at work!!

I do prep a little, put things away that I don't want to be lost . She mixes my & DH's paperwork. I also bring down the ironing for her to do. Check that all the cleaning stuff is there for her. Make sure toys are away. I don't want Ds to think that someone is there to pick up after him. We don't leave our clothes on the floor etc.. Oh! That's it!

I tidy as I pay her to clean (which I hate doing) as opposed to tidy up (which I am happy doing).

Depends what you want really.

But I wouldn't move ornaments and lamps etc

I think it is just sensible to tidy your home to as close a proximation as possible to non-cluttered decorative perfection before having a cleaner round.

So I put away paperwork, toys, miscellany and expect a cleaner to leave everything just where he/she finds it, having cleaned underneath, above and around it.

Tidy the floors and surfaces of things that dont belong there and leave lamps, ornaments etc. She should clean around and under them and then put them back!

I do tidy up and take things off the floor so she can hoover etc, but I don't remove knick-knacks from on side tables etc. The only time I do this is when there are a load of b'day cards as she seems not to dust if there are cards on the surfaces.
