I want to take the opportunity to de-clutter and deep clean while he's not around to distract me with more interesing things to do and to re-clutter as I de-clutter! ANyone want to join me or have any good tips?

I ought to do this too - DP and the children are away this week and I am on my own.

But I think I want to go to the cinema and shopping instead!

mummyindisguise · 21/02/2010 12:06

Ok I am game. Where shall we start?

seeker · 21/02/2010 12:09

I intend to do that as well, bonsoir!

Shall we start tomorrow in the kitchen?

Actually, the project I really ought to work on is a new address book.

seeker · 21/02/2010 12:13

Do I get the feeling that your heart really isn;t into this idea, bonsoir?????

Bonsoir · 21/02/2010 12:21

I think it's a good idea but I am actually feeling pretty pissed off with my family right now and wonder why I feel the need to spend the week decluttering when they are all off on a holiday enjoying themselves without me!

NorkilyChallenged · 21/02/2010 12:23

Ooh, I"ve been thinking this

Bonsoir · 21/02/2010 12:25

I don't think I am going to put up with the rough end of the deal, actually!

droitwichmummy · 21/02/2010 12:30

This is the sort of thing we do on the fledgling flyers thread. If that's not your 'thing' though I would suggest tackling one small area at a time - keep it manageable rather than try to do it all at once IYSWM. I set a timer for 15 to 30 mins - whatever time I have - to have a really good go then stop and take a break

Good luck!

droitwichmummy · 21/02/2010 12:31

Just a thought - Fledgling Flyers link in case you want to have a look

I went for a lovely walk this afternoon instead of decluttering! First I went to a museum, then to the bookshop for books for DD and books and DVDs for me, then for more of a walk and finally stopped off for a bowl of ramen before going home (didn't want to cook just for myself).

I could get used to this...

seeker · 21/02/2010 22:51

Sounds wonderfulo, bonsoir - I am definitely going to do some lovely stuff like that while dp's away. BUT!. I also want to declutter and clean. I am already a sort of flylady - bit I need to accelerate over the next 2 seeks!

You are right, seeker!

I am going to start off by mending clothes (lots of buttons to sew on!) and by taking my boots to be reheeled.

And I need to go to take the wax off some of my furniture and rewax it. I have the stripper but not the wax.

Because we have an immensely complicated family diary (DP's work, exW's work, DSS1 and DSS2 have lots of school applications at the moment) and we just could't manage to get it all together and do all the things we need to! My turn next week (and I am eating into DD's school term too - still allowed!) as she is still at maternelle.

seeker · 22/02/2010 13:48

Glad to see you're not letting the side down, Bonsoir - of course you would have chic chores!

OP posts:
allaboutme · 22/02/2010 13:56

I should do this too! DH is away with work this week so have a good opportunity to have a bit of a sort out.
Only thing is that I may not be quite as productive as the rest of you as I have 2 not at school yet little ones who hinder my efforts at cleaning sometimes!!
Will try though! I really need to start with my bedroom I think!

Bonsoir · 22/02/2010 14:11

I'm doing a mega sheets laundry today!

Also need to think about framing a portrait of DD and of getting some chairs upholstered. Oh, and I need to go and look at wallpaper.

seeker · 22/02/2010 14:17

Told you. Chic chores!

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 22/02/2010 14:34

Hmm... have just hoovered the mattresses... not quite so chic!

How are you doing, seeker?

Collision · 22/02/2010 14:36

Sort through old clothes. If you dont like, havent worn or dont fit - chuck it!

Same with toys - do it while kids arent around and they will not notice

Go in corners of the room and see what has accumulated - chuck it out.

Bonsoir · 22/02/2010 20:49

I sorted out the framing of DD's portrait - silver frame, pink passe partout (it's a full length charcoal portrait of her when she was two).

I went to the wallpaper shop but it doesn't open on Monday .

So went to buy summer clothes for DD and some haberdashery bits and bobs to make her a costume for a dressing up party .

And came home and sorted out all my haberdashery and sewing boxes, and am now rummaging through DD's room trying to make sense of her organisational system (because woe betide me if I move things, though what the logic is defies me somewhat) and throw away things that are broken. And also look at her summer clothes and try to coordinate outfits.

absinthe · 22/02/2010 21:06

Bonsoir - I often find it hard to believe that you are not French through and through; you are more French than the French-est people I know

deaddei · 22/02/2010 21:13

I imagine Bonsoir looking like Audrey Hepburn floating round with a headscarf tied 50's style and big dark sunglasses-with not a Converse or baggy tracksuit in sight
Chic chores- love it.
I cif-fed all my woodwork today- not chic.

Bonsoir · 22/02/2010 21:49

I'm afraid the reality would be a huge let down then, deaddei .

I have just sorted DD's dolls' wardrobe and chest of drawers... and have had a little scrub of my nubuck boots that DD was sick on a while back. They haven't been the same since...
