Cleaning shower screens

I use ecloths at the moment, but as we live in a very hard water area, my screens don't look fantastic.
Also the aluminium surround has water marks on which I can't shift.
Any suggestions?

cilit bang works the best for me and im also in a hard water area. seems to shift water marks and limescale but its more expensive than most cleaners.

I live in a very hard water area too and neat white vinegar sprayed on, left for a few minutes then wiped off with the scrubby side of a washing up sponge works well for me.

Thankyou ladies- I shall be trying those out next week.

and once you get the marks off, I suggest getting a window wiper thingie (squeegie?) and wiping the water off after every use, then going over with the e-cloth. Takes a minute after every shower, but really stops any build-up.

SPBInDisguise · 20/02/2010 17:15

Since you use ecloths you might not be up for this but another MNer told me this and it has made my shower the sparkliest it's ever been (including the watermarked doors, it's now the outside that lets them down)
Use a paste of bio washing powder and water and scrub it in, rinse off et voila!

yogabird · 20/02/2010 17:36

ooh, girls, what about the plastic seal thing that goes along the underside of the screen and ends up a bit green. Any ideas of how to clean that stuff off/out?

EVye · 20/02/2010 17:42

We use a squeegee after every shower. Live in v hard water area but it keeps the screen clear.

You need to give it a good clean with something like ecover descaling cleaner stuff. and then squeegee daily.

oooo yoga - i hate that!

i use a toothbrush. i unclip it, spray in loads of cillit bang, leave it for a bit then scrub it inside with a toothbrush (kept only for cleaning purposes!) then rinse it with the shower spray, dry it and stick it back on. jobs a gud un!

I second the vinegar spray, leave and wipe off.

Fizzylemonade · 20/02/2010 19:02

About once a week I take a cleaning sponge into the shower and after I have washed my hair I use Ecover Limescale remover (voted as best by Which) on the shower screen (means I can bend down to the bottom of the screen and not mind getting soaked)

We squeegee after every shower, then you can buff with the e-cloth.

I have just sold my house and the person who bought it actually asked me what I used!!! She even made me write it down for her

NonnoMum · 20/02/2010 19:11

Thank you Mumsnet. Was slaving away on the silver-edgey bit of the shower screen today with a steam cleaner (?) and sponge and thought I might need to start a thread on this.

You beat me to it, deaddei; glad you had a fun Saturday too!

deaddei · 20/02/2010 21:11

I never knew the plastic thing clipped off the bottomm of the screen

yogabird · 21/02/2010 08:41

now brandishing a toothbrush heading for the bathroom - thanks!
Just got to dodge bickering and wailing dd's on the way1

callmeovercautious · 21/02/2010 09:07

Thanks for this thread - I am going to re-paint the bathroom this week and thought I would need to replace the screen but I think with a good clean it will come up nicely

I also found this site for replacement screen seals here that looks like a good idea as our seal is split not just dirty
