our washing machine smells like something has died in it...any solutions come to mind? ( or speculation as to causes? (im pretty sure nothing has died in it)

i have done a wash at 90 degrees...which took the edge off it momentarily.

(i feel like i should already know this)

Beans, are you me? Exactly the same with me - I've even donned the rubber gloves and wiped round the inside of the rubbery bit (not a job for the fainthearted!) to no avail. DH even bought Calgon tablets in a vain attempt to try and rid the smell. Nada. Help someone, please!!

Do you use non-bio? I had a stinky washer a few weeks back, I was using cheap non-bio washing liquid and washing at 30 degrees. It wasn't enough to kill the bacteria. I bought some biological ariel, some yellow lenor, and I stick every wash on at 60, it never smells any more.

If that doesn't work, check the rubber seal isn't mouldy or has accumulated stinky water in it. Pull the drawer out and give in a scrub/stick it in the dishwasher. Or run an empty load, with (racks brain) less than 30 ml of bleach in the drawer. hth

thanks folks...i have been googling in the interim and there does seem to be alot of thi strouble about....not sure why it has taken soo long to strike in my life!

think we will be doing a hot wash with a potion of vinegar and bicarb...as we do wash at 30 0r 40 with non bio (and live in blotchy clothes)

Always take washing out when cycle has finished (when you can.) And leave the door ajar when your not using it!

beansontoast · 20/02/2010 20:15

always do...think this prob is bigger than that.thanks though N10.

hot wash with vinegar and leaving door slightly ajar worked for us. it used to stink! oh and cleaning the drawer and wiping the seal helps too.

would second the soda crystals at 90 degrees on a long wash a couple of times. Also, washing out the drawer really helped on mine.
I found out that there was stinking water sitting in the waste pipe of mine which never washed away causing the smell...
Also, try washing with vinegar in the drawer on a 90 degree.
Good luck!

Mine was horrible and stinky, and nothing seemed to help,1so I poured half a pack of soda crystals into the drum and ran it on the hottest wash. Then I repeated it.I then covered an old blunt knife with a j cloth and stuck it into the gap between the rubber seal and the drum.I ran it around the inside of the gap a couple of times and when it came out it was covered in the most awful smelling black gunk.I kept going at it,using sponges or anything else I could get in there and kept going until it came out clean. It smells just fine now.
