Is a Turtle mat worth the money?

We have a pale maple Amtico floor in our hall (was here when we moved in) which is constantly in need of a good clean, despite trying to get people to take their shoes off. I've seen Turtle mats advertised, which promise that they will reduce the number of dirty footprints across the floor. But are they any better than a regular door mat? (we have a regular mat, but it just doesn't seem to work! Especially with the number of workmen we have had in and out of the house, plus a 2 year old and her wellies). They are rather expensive, especially as I would like the biggest size ideally- so I don't want to waste my money.
And if not a Turtle mat, what else? There is a microfibre mat on Lakeland with mixed reviews- anyone have this?

yes they are great, but can you get them new cheaper on ebay from one of their shops?

piprabbit · 19/02/2010 23:17

Yes - I love my turtle mat. Hall no longer looks like a mudbath within minutes of hoovering.

ooh hadn't thought about ebay- shall have a look- am desperate to stop having to clean the floor as often!

Yes - they are wonderful. We have two, one at back door and one at front, and the house is so much cleaner.

Yes, but they only work for people and dogs, not cats. So our floors remain filthy.

But actually, we found that one of the best things is that they are large enough that you can stand on them while taking off your shoes / wellies.

Love my turtle mats - wouldn't live without them when my flat has beige carpets!

ruffletheanimal · 20/02/2010 19:58

i have a turtle mat-a-like. was cheaper but does the same job (looks/feels the same)
cant for the life of me remember where its from or what its called, but at least you know they are out there !

How funny, I was coming her to ask the same thing! Do they trap grass? Our major problem is a kitchen floor covered in clippings in the summer.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 21/02/2010 09:23

I think they would trap grass but you may have to get everyone to do a sort of stamping action. Ours don't work very well for the dog really but fantastic for muddy boots. Mine are currently drying on the radiator and look good as new.

Excellent and value for money too imo. Mine is more than 10 years old and shows no wear at all. It goes in the washing machine regularly and comes out like new.

Oquioqui · 21/02/2010 17:19

Yes, they do work

alinealine · 22/02/2010 08:11

I am sure that Turtle mats can be bought even from their website and in reasonable prices - you just have to find the sale there and you are home!
But no doubt - there are really durable and have no other competition when fighting with dust and mud at home!

I have a rip off from "watsons floormats" - bought for use by humans and large dogs approx 8? Years ago. Works fantastically - front door so constant use. Washed many, many times and still look as good as new (impressive!). Can't recommend enough!
