getting the smell of sick out of the sofa!

DS1 was sick on the sofa yesterday - it is a suede type material (not real) and is not removable. I've scrubbed it with washing up liquid and blotted it with paper towel, i've sprinkled it with bicarb (am sure i read somewhere this is supposed to get rid of the smell)and hoovered it off this morning, but it still stinks.
Does anyone have any tips?

biological powder dissolved in hot water. Washingup liquid would ahve done nothing.

hmmmm i don't have any biological powder - i suppose non bio won't work either without the enzymes. I don't really want to go out shopping as he'll probably thow up in the shop
I have some vansish powder - might be worth a go?

bicarb again - but put a LOT on, cover with a towel and leave overnight. Hoover off.

We had the same problem a few weeks ago and the second round of bicarb did the trick (but use half a tub of the stuff)

some people don't like the smell but white vinegar is an effective neutraliser (and the vinegar smell doesn't stay for long.

Thanks - i will try that if everything else doesn't work! I have WW vinegar in the cupboard, although it has tarragon in it!

don't use white wine vinegar!! plain old distilled malt vinegar is the one you need to use.

dilute it 50:50 with water and put in an old spray bottle, spray the area well - it will smell like a chippy while drying but the smell disappears when the fabric dries.

you can also leave a small dish of white vinegar out in the room to absorb any airborne smells.
