hi,

I could really do with some advice on vacuums please. I am on my third vacuum in a year, my own fault as I keep buying cheap cylinder ones from argos that break within a few weeks. I am finally splashing out on a dyson cylinder. I am torn between a dyson dc08 or a dyson 19i. If anyone has one or knows about them, or could recomend similar cylinder under 190. These two cost 199 and 152 pounds respectively. As a single parent this is a huge layout and I can't afford to buy a duff one. My requirements are that they are fairly light to lift and use. Many many thanks.

I would get a Miele cylinder. They are pretty sturdy. Mine has done 6 years now. Had a dyson previously, bits kept breaking off it.

I am a miele fan too. We've got a miele cylinder that we've had for nearly 6 years now and it shows no signs of giving up. It cost about £130 ish I think and I have treated it pretty badly - has been dropped down the stairs twice (full length of the flight) and we've used it to tidy up DIY mess. It still has excellent suction and nothing has fallen off it.

A friend of mine is now on her second Dyson in 3 years, but still thinks they're great - largely, I think, because she reckons she's a bit cool and that Dysons are trendy. I don't know a single person with a Dyson who hasn't had to either bin it or shell out for repairs within 2 years.
