My (Ikea stainless steel) teaspoons look ghastly; stained (I do wash them in between use) and brownish. How can I give them a bit of oomph? In a teaspoony kind of way?

second rub with a scourer

nickelbabe · 09/02/2010 15:04

use the wirey side of your sponge.
just rub until it comes off.

it doesn't take long

I use what my mum calls a 'Goldilocks'- a metal wire scourer thingy.

Or occasionally I dump the whole lot in a mug with a weak bleach solution in. Then thorough washing.

dishwasher

If you soak them in denture cleaning powder it gets rid of any stains.

I guess you can still get denture cleaning powder they used to come in little tablets in a tube.

A soak in sterilising fluid - Milton or similar works wonders

GrimmaTheNome · 09/02/2010 15:37

Just use bleach, if its tea/coffee stains.
Domestos is just fine, so long as you wash and rinse well afterwards.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/02/2010 15:46

SAoak them in bleach.

I put them at the bottom of the sink, put an inch of bleach solution (about 70-30 bleach-water). That way the sink (teabag stains) gets done at the same time as the teaspoons.

Cups need to be done periodically as well.

Ohh I could give Kim and Aggie a run for their money! (not really)

You could try some Bicarbonate of Soda. A gentle rub on any spoons, cups, tea pots, etc and it will come up clean and shiny. No harsh chemicals and doesnt cost a lot. I use it on my work surface as well where its gone a bit discoloured from cups.

table salt works. Put some on a cloth and scrub a little and it removes the stain. Tis not harmful to environment either!

Be thankful you have any bloody teaspoons - for eleven consecutive workdays, DH has binned the detritus of his packed lunch, INCLUDING the Royal Doulton teaspoons which I packed because he's an adult, and doesn't need plastic cutlery

White vinegar is good. Just leave them to soak in a tub of it and all the hard work is done!EASY!
