Using a Freezer for general storage

First of all, I demand a medal for clearing out my small built-under freezer. It fair broke my heart to throw out mashed potato from 2008, blackberry juice from 2006 !! half a tin of sardines (!!!) and various other (mainly unrecognisable) bits and pieces. So now I have moved the very few bits of good stuff into the other well organised freezer, and think I can manage with only one, so long as I keep it organised.

The question is, can I use the old one as a general cupboard? It has 3 plastic drawers and would be very handy for stuff like tea towels, and rolls of foil. Can anyone think of a good reason why not?

Just be aware that if anyone else goes in there they will think you are weird.

That's all right, I am wierd. But it looks like a cupboard anyway. I'm just worried it might be too airtight and get smelly...or something.

My mum has been doing just this for several years, no problems whatsoever. Especially if you are opening and shutting it regularly.

Before I was aware of this change of use, I remember standing in the kitchen one day and she casually opened it, got a set of table mats out and put them on the table, I was completely lost for words! I thought she had gone bonkers. But now I see that it is a very sensible use for it.

Use it to store your flour, rice etc. You won't get pantry moths or weevils - freezing kills the larvae.
