Horrid smell of decay - how can we eliminate it?

we had a small r a t problem and i think it has died as the house smells awful (rentokil have been in to deal with it)

it is a sweet, decaying smell and we can't locate it (so I think whatever has died is trapped in the brickwork)

what can i do to get rid of/minimise the smell?

it is horrid ..

TIA

don't rentokill take the offending item away then?

rubyslippers · 06/02/2010 21:19

they can't find it!

they think it may be trapped somewhere but they are coming back ...

until then i have a stinky house

tbh the smell should disappate quite quickly. Is it only one rat? The body of one rat is not that big and should be past the 'stinky' stage of decomposition reasonable quickly!!

rubyslippers · 06/02/2010 21:23

Likely to be only one according to rentokil

hope we only have a day or so more of smell then

Ventilate the house. Basically open all the windows.
Don't use any artificial air fresheners as it will just clash.

Hope it goes quickly.

Know you truely understand the expression 'i can small a rat'.
It's awful, day 4/5 is worst that it really does get better. Might be a few flies (they are your friends in this case)

windows are open - we are chilly but less stinky

LOL @ smelling a rat it bloody reeks

it is the sickly sweet smell - it is in my nostrils all the time
