hi ladies

OP posts:
wendyhappysmile · 06/02/2010 09:50

OFM hope you're feeling better.
I have flu symptoms, last night I was freezing and despite a hot water bottle and several blankets couldn't get warm. I was also deliriously obsessed with knitting stitches! Feeling rubbish today.
busy day too. DS gone to golf lesson with my Dad. He has a party at 1 and then we all have a party at 3. I have done the puddings for it and am going early to help my friend set up.
Tomorrow out for a 60th birthday meal.
Really need to clean and tidy my house, done very little for several weeks now.
Right see you all later.
Wolf what's this about April, count me in too!

Tortoise · 06/02/2010 09:55

Morning all.
This mornings job is to have a mass sort out in DD's room! The floor can not be seen at the moment. I have told them they have to get rid of some stuff! we shall see!

Need to get dressed first!

Wolfcub · 06/02/2010 11:21

wendy you are definitely in

done

bed made
bathroom cleaned
dome dry washing taken upstairs and put away
partial sweep of kitchen floor
read lots to ds
chicken out of freezer for dinner

mum has lent me her tumble drier for the weekend so I will be working my way through as much washing as possible

Starbear · 06/02/2010 11:53

Morning all
Thank you WENDY for the thread. Hope you have a chance to go back to bed.
Tortoise I really need to fling some things in Ds's toy stack! He has a ELC piano which he doesn't play with any more but we have lost the mic & it's stand so not really good for the charity shop!
wolf Glad you've got the use of the tumble dryer. For 5 years I avoided using ours re cost and damage to clothes but this year I have given in!
BY the way I got the job no need to do an interview. People in the dept already know me and no one else wants to do it Now I need to market my job as they won't release me until I have a replacement. School's officer job not very popular. No glamour!
TM Hope you are having a fab day.

Back in a mo with a list

Starbear · 06/02/2010 11:57

Okay jobs done
Breakfast
Beds made
W/M emptied & reloaded
D/W unloaded and re loaded
Kitchen tidy
I now don't know what to do the boys have gone to the gym! Friend going to take Ds to the circus this afternoon & DH going to watch rugby in a pub in Richmond.
Right! I am going to have a shower & dress neatly.
Does anyone have a receipe for a really nice chunky apple cake?

Wolfcub · 06/02/2010 12:06

star that's fantastic news. Congratulations.

dp has fallen downstairs and probably broken his toe. Lesson being don't leave loads of stuff piled up on narrow twisty staircase.

swanriver · 06/02/2010 13:13

WELL DONE STAR ON job, that's a bit mean you have to find a replacement for your existing job..

Apple cake square 7" or 8" round bottom lined and greased

4oz wholewheat flour (100g)
4oz self raising flour
4oz sugar light soft brown
I tblspoon honey
half teaspoon baking powder
4oz soft butter
2 eggs

rub butter into flour
add sugar
add honey/eggs beaten, ,mix well

Ib of cooking apples (then peeled cored and sliced) mixed in
sprinkle with I oz of soft brown sugar

bake at gas 3, or 160 c for 50 -60 mins

off to lunch now with new friends, hope my kids behave
morning of music and communion classes
last night dcs would NOT go to bed till 9.00pm - think we are now going to give up "putting" them formally to bed on Fridays, and just let them doss around amiably downstairs in their pjs playing - tis so frustrating having one little figure after another comig down to interrupt our so called cosy supper..

Wolf poor man
Wendy lots of paracetemol and hot tea may get you through afternoon, good luck with 60th and maybe Sunday you can hibernate.

Tortoise · 06/02/2010 13:32

Halfway through girls room! Filled a black bin bag with unwanted soft toys!!! And another bag of toys/bits. DD's are well into chucking bits out for once! Back to it very soon. Just had lunch break .

Wendy Hope you are feeling better.
Wolf I love my tumble drier. Would be buried under washing if i didn't have one! Ow poor DP! I tied my stairs (finally) the other day!
Star If it the same keyboard DD1 had, the stand and mic are not essential to its use so someone may buy it in a charity shop.

grouchyoscar · 06/02/2010 13:46

Hello ALL

DF is out of hospital He's had a huge and vital kick up the bum and fingers crossed he's learnt a valubale lesson.

I got up and

Made brekkie
Empty DW
Put away
Shine sink
Tidy the front room
Help Ed with his homework
Clean out the cat cellar
Call DF (spoke to his partner)

Ed got a bad report from school for the week, his behaviour is somewhat challenging. Basically he will get out of things he doesn't want to do and doesn't fit into the average box. DH is getting concerned that the teacher is failing but I see both sides. Ed is very intelligent and needs pushing constantly or he gets bored and tricky. I now have a new weapon in my armoury; If he doesn't pick up his ticket to Glasgow is being returned and he's staying with GM Evil mum emo

Tea I'm just so transparent really aren't I? Heh heh heh

I'm free in April BTW Wolf

BBL TTFN

Wolfcub · 06/02/2010 14:21

ds is polishing the hearth for me. I am a devious evil mother

Tortoise · 06/02/2010 16:49

Girls room is finally sorted. Taken nearly a whole day to do but looks much better and they have got rid of a few bits of junk. 2 bags of stuff for charity shop plus some bits to stick on Ebay.

Starbear · 06/02/2010 17:06

Afternoon all had a odd afternoon. Done some clothes shopping for Ds, brought books and a piece of cake (it had fruit in so okay) Sat down watched a Saturday film with tea & cake. How bizarre! Yeah Yeah will start diet tomorrow!
Wolf hope DP is coping. Apparently not much they can do with broken toes! No you are supplying him with skills
Swan Thank you for the receipe Ds would like an apple cake that another (unknown) mum made. I hope I can match her.
Tortise Thank you, off it now goes.
grouchy It's not mean, its an incentive (see it all in the wording ha! ha!
Re job the quicker I find a replacement the quicker I go. I'm going to speak to HR on Tuesday re details.
Off now to pick up friend & the boys must return the favour to her she is fab!

OverflowingMum · 06/02/2010 18:41

star congrats on job!

wolf poor DP

go poor Ed, could well be poor behaviour as result of being bored if not challenged enough

tort well done on gils' room

wendy poor you. hope you're feeling a bit better. sorry but LOL at "deleriously obsessed with knitting stitches" althoug I'm sure not funny at the time!

Am feeling mostly recovered today...stomach better, but do seem to have random sore throat and earache...

Not too bad a day really....
DDs 1 and 2 went to drama club this morning, rest ofus went to local market, bought lots of fruit and veg etc...
Then home for lunch, then homework, then general chillingout...a bit of sewing pretty things
Roast gammon for dinner
Now watching Cheaper by the Dozen with DC...love that film LOL malkes our home/family look almost normal LOL

Need to do some housework tomorrow LOL

and...whispers...I haven't argued with DH yet ....must be a weekend record!

wendyhappysmile · 06/02/2010 19:40

Survived the day, ended up in the kitchen at the party organising the food (of course, why do I always seem to be the one who 'takes over'?!) Party was fun and DC very well behaved. I got lots of compliments on my baking so am feeling happy! (I did the cake and biscuits etc for the party)
Still feeling rubbish but am surviving.
OFM love the bag.
Wolf poor DP! I am always leaving stuff on our landing too, which is small - must stop!
star well done on the job
swan apple cake sounds good. I have a foolproof recipe but may have to try that one too!
right, off to try to eat something. Have managed two bits of toast, an oatcake and a piece of bread today. Not very healthy.
See you tomorrow girls

OP posts:
swanriver · 06/02/2010 20:25

Wendy you can't say that without telling us your foolproof recipe mine is only out of a semi-reliable book...

We've had a v. relaxing afternoon at friends' house till 6.00 - dcs climbed garden shed, we talked about education, and build a bear..
Dh has suggested moving dining room table back into kitchen which is good, I'm beginning to feel like I know lots of local people who could be invited to Sunday lunch

dd unfortunately had a tantrum when we got home again but now all cheered up, after supper.

OFM dcs and me love that film and sequel too.

everyone is still up alas
feel v. tired and lacking in vim.

dylsmum1998 · 06/02/2010 20:56

evening all

star congrats on the job

swan recipe looks lush!

tort am sorting out ds's room am hoping for clear out- then starting on dd's toys..

today we have taken dd to ballet i pushed her in through the door very matter of fact and She loved it! was amusing to watch she was holding on to one of the teachers whilst all the others were skipping in the circle- dd just walked. towards the end of the lesson she was giggling/ laughing and joining in properly. she came out full of smiles and very excited. then went off to her dads.
took ds to his swim lesson his diving is coming on well- he was doing sumewrsaults as he hit the water- but he didn't today.

then went to buy all the paint new duvets/ pillows sheets etc for his room. have spent the evening painting. his red wall will need another coat when it is dried (so tomorrow!). he is now sorting through his things has a few things for ebay, few for charity shops and the rest will go to the dump. thee loads more to sort yet- why do my children accumulate so much stuff??

TeaMonster · 07/02/2010 10:13

Morning all

Mums case is packed, as from monday morning I can relax for two weeks.

Wolf I will chat to DH tonight and confirm a couple of possibilities for April - woohoo

OFM I am envious of your sewing time

Star Well done you

Oh my I have forgot the rest - brain drain and boys playing up

wendyhappysmile · 07/02/2010 10:16

Will post recipe later, swan. I know what you mean about lacking vim!! LOL
Morning all
Not up and about really yet, still feeling a bit lethargic and rubbish. This bug has been a killer! ]
dyls ballet sounds good, must find one for my DD soon. All children have loads of stuff, don't they!
BBL after 60th dinner party (sitting down in a restaurant with my children They are very wriggly on the go types and not good at sitting still at the table with nothing to do!)

OP posts:
wendyhappysmile · 07/02/2010 10:21

350g apples
225g self-raising flour
half tsp cinnamon
quarter tsp nutmeg
115g butter chopped
115g soft brown sugar
2-3 tbsp milk
1-2 tbsp demerara sugar

Oven to 180 C/ Gas 4. Lightly grease a 23cm flan tin or dish (I use the one I use for quiches)
Put flour and spices into a bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs
Peel, core and chop the apples and mix them with the soft brown sugar. Stir into the flour mixture and beat in enough milk to form a soft batter, not too sticky.
Put it into the tin. Sprinkle with the demerara sugar to give the cake a crunchy topping. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until firm to the touch.

I think this was a Gary Rhodes recipe. It always works, it is crunchy when it comes out, delicious warm. Then goes soft and sticky the next day! Everyone wins! (except the waistline)

Morning all

Sorry wasn't on yesterday loads of errands and then a nice night in so wasn't allowed the PC on. Apparently i'm on it too often

Decided to go and get a gait anaylsis on my running style yesterday as my knee seems to start to hurt again everytime I try to run again. Apparently I am over-pronating and my foot is rolling in as I run. No wonder really with a dodgy hip and ankle on that side. Anyway, to correct it I had to buy some new trainers much to DH's annoyance (I have more trainers than a sports shop) and they cost £90!! - He's eager for my to run in thm every day now to make them pay

Was planning on going to gym this morning but forgot to dry my gym clothes yesterday so I'm doing housework instead and going to try gym later. DH and DD have gone to see family and left me to it so i'm off to the shops and then finish tidying the spare room them off to my grandma's birthday meal.

I may have to try some of these apple receipes, they sound yummy. wolf I couldn't do without my tumble dryer, although its in the garage so a pain in bad weather to trudge out to.

Wendy hope you feel better soon
Star Congrats on job - Hope you find a replacement soon so you can get started.

Starbear · 07/02/2010 11:38

Morning ALL
OOOO! Wendy That sounds just delicious.
OFM & TM I love your sewing stuff but in a very small house there is no room for sewing machines & hobbies. That might soon change. Our plans have been looked over by planners and going to the next stage.Meaning they didn't throw it in the bin as soon as it arrived.
Feeling a bit lost at the moment. It seems that weekend is full of chores and appointments, don't really suit me. I feel we need a change.
The weekend goes like this.
Saturday DH has a lie in and I feel rotten as I normally don't sleep because I've had wine and food that gives me heart burn!!!(true I can change that)
Then DH takes Ds to gynmastics I do housework which is good that I can just get on out chat to you lot!
Afternoon DH goes and watches sport while I figure out what to do with Ds. We don't like shopping too late to start a hill walk (have to drive out of town first! I don't have any friend interested in hill walking. DH can't really as he has had 4 hip operations and is running around all week!
Dinner saturday all together or with friends good (never go out Saturday night.
Sunday Breakfast and DH goes with DS to church morally I think it great BUT I hate the boring service and can't sing the hymns and I haven't converted and don't really plan to.
Lunch together then DH does Homework while I do something not very satisfing for me with DS. Make Sunday dinner again just us or with friends
Sorry to bore you but this routine doesn't suit me. I need to shake it up.
I can't just meet friends for coffee and a playdate that's boring too! I'm I beginning to sound like a kid!!! P.S I hate sport!
Any tips welcome. What's your weekend routine. What works for you and what doesn't?
back later to see the score

Makingchanges · 07/02/2010 11:39

dyls at ballet. DD dreams of ballet classes but the nearest one makes you pay for uniform etc out right and I'm not sure at just turned 4 shes confident enough for it yet. We take her to a dance class on saturdays at our gym. Very informal and a mix of dance with some pretend pressups etc which she loves cos she's doing gym like mummy and daddy but can tell all her little friends she is at dance as well. But she is the youngest in the class and the others think she is like a little doll I think so she is spoilt there.

Tort well done on your mass clear out. Want to come and do mine

Tea enjoy your two weeks without your mum. I hope you both have a lovely time.

grouchy I love your bribery.

OFM - You make some lovely things. Wish I had spare time for a relaxing hobby. I've been reading a book for a week and only got to the beginning of chapter 2.

Right off to the shops BBL

Makingchanges · 07/02/2010 11:48

Star our weekend routines involves taking DD to dance class. Luckily its at the gym so I get to get a session in without struggling like I do in the week to fit it in. DD sits in the cafe and does work or goes for a swim or gym whilst DD at dance. Then DD and DH go swimming whilst I finish off my session and get changed (takes ages to straighten my hair etc) and I usually take some uni work with me and do this in the gym. Then either all three of us have lunch in the gym or DH may have a guym session if no time for it earlier whilst DD and me have dinner. In the afternoon we usually argue over what to do as DH usually wants to go to caravan, see some relative etc and I have shopping or something that needs to be done. Then we come home, I read the local paper whilst DD plays and DH goes upstairs to watch sport. Saturday evening we usually end up with me doing more uni work and DH having face on cos I'm working or hes asleep on settee when I have face on cos he can't keep awake.

Sunday we usually do jobs that need doing, may go to gym but not usually and then spend from early afternoon til about 7pm with DHs parents. Just watching there telly whilst DD plays. Which I get mad about cos we neve go see my parents and we aren't doing anything there but I could be getting jobs done at home or we could be doing something fun. I have tried to stop this but can't. I sometimes think that DH should still live with his parents. Me and In-laws aren't the closest so its not entirely comfy. DH likes it cos they can look after DD he says. By sunday evening we are normally arguing cos I get a bee in my bonnet about how little time DH and DD spent together (she idolises him - He does her but doesn't seem to be able to just sit and play with her)

Sorry that was a really long post - I have unresolved issues about weekends Much prefer week days sometimes

Starbear · 07/02/2010 12:24

MC It seems that we are in the same but different. I used love hillwalking or go to museums with Sis &/or nephews. Or go up town window shop and not buying then spend the rest of the afternoon in a book shop before going out with friends. Or find fab events to go to.OR watching Saturday films with No guilt! I also used to work on the weekends. I wish Ds didn't go to gymnastic on Saturday I would then go back to doing the same stuff with him as I did with my nephews DH could join us & then go to football OR if we are in the countryside do it alternate weeks. I'll have to speak to him about it. Church doesn't fit either which sounds so wrong when I think the book has a lot of moral guidance and feeling part of a community!
Maybe next week I'll go to church! (yukky!)
I'm really a humanist (Must look up what that really means!)
Not keen on going to see lovely Mum because sadly she bores the pants off me!!!
maybe air things we will come up with a solution

swanriver · 07/02/2010 14:16

Star - I know what you mean about church and the hymns - having been brought up as Protestant by default (too complicated to explain) not many hymns in Catholic church was familiar to me 10 years ago - put me in a Methodist/Anglican church and I can sing every one
However the spirited rendition my dcs bring to most of them has made them more enjoyable/uplifting - so I don't think it would take you long to get into the party spirit!!!
I usually spend the service thinking about problems or dealing with the problems (dcs), now occasionally I've moved on to being able to listen to the readings, and find them completely fascinating and absorbing (though sometimes confusing), even if I wasn't a Christian, especially loads about Judaism and the Law.
My dh NEVER goes to church, he finds it extremely dull, and he thinks the music is TERRIBLE.

I found myself feeling exactly like you walking back from Church, I kept thinking what did I really want to do today..Sunday has got away from me again...
Anyway tis not too bad, dh cooked lunch, he's done some housework. I'm glad I didn't bite his head off when I walked in door, because it appeared that Nothing had been done, but actually he's done laundry etc.

Children have had long walk, I've bought lots of useful things from Pound Shop on way home (like bleach, hair bobbles and biscuits).

They are doing some electrical circuit thingy with him now, and I am meant to be discovering how to play Harry Potter Cluedo (instructions v. incomprehensible - from Christmas

MC why don't you stay at home alternate weekends and he goes by himself to his parents, just sometimes? I'm sure your dd likes going even if just lolling about.
