How do you get rid of all the mildew on bath toys?

Bleach, failing that bin them.

whethergirl · 04/02/2010 19:48

Tempted to bin them but then I'd get through a lot of bath toys like that. I've got some mildew spray actually but wasn't sure about using it because of the bleach content.
I was hoping someone would come up with a miracle soloution like vinegar.

apparently you can soak them in milton

we tend to bung in dishwasher and only ever buy the hard sort of plastic, the squashy ones get way grosser more quickly!

BakewellTarts · 04/02/2010 20:02

Another vote for Milton.

whethergirl · 04/02/2010 20:10

What's milton? I've obviously been missing out here.

I used bleach and made sure I washed them thoroughly afterwards. Better than chucking out plastic that wouldn't degrade at all.

Suburbanite · 08/02/2010 18:57

Aggie from How Clean is your House recommended Milton fluid (in the baby section, it's sterilising fluid) - soak them, fill them up & shake, you'll be able to squirt black manky stuff out! repeat as nec...

ktbeau · 08/02/2010 19:37

Milton all the way. I use the tablets in a bucket of water. Squeeze all the toys so they fill with the solution, leave them an hour or so, squeeze them out and ready to go

Pingpong · 08/02/2010 19:38

that mildew spray works I used it following from a thread on here a while back. I'm sure Milton does the job well too. Just rinse well after the mildew spray.
I was horrified at all the suggestions of 'chuck 'em' last time round.

Flibbertyjibbet · 08/02/2010 20:42

I just used to give bath toys a good scrub with a brush in very hot washing up liquid water. Got rid of all the squeezy toys the minute I realised they get full of black gunk, and I never replaced them.
