Ironing starts before you switch on the washing machine! Make sure you are using decent washing powder and softener and that the two products go together (ariel with lenor and persil with comfort etc.)then if you have to dry on a maid or radiator fold it neatly and don't let it dry too fast. do you have decent coathangers and enough space in your wardrobe so the clothes aren't squashed together because if not then you are probably better off ironing as and when. I always iron my partners shirts in this order(and he has never complained) collar flat (don't iron it folded down) then shoulders (put them over the end of the ironing board as though it is the shoulder) sleeves (if you don't want a crease then you have to flatten the sleeve with the seam in the middle iron then flatten with the seam at the bottom iron but don't go over the edges) then front back front onto hanger to cool and set! I iron about 15 shirts a week.

Jenroy29 - interesting idea to iron before you wash, I'll have to give it a go.

I always wash first, leave to dry/air for a little bit and iron whilst it is still slightly damp.

I generally iron sleeves, body, then collar but, if i'm in a rush the order goes out the window and I iron whatever part lands on the board first! :-)

A tumble dryer really does help - put the shirts in by themselves for 10 mins, take out promptly and hang till you've time to iron them. Some items may not even need ironing - not business shirts, but kids school shirts are good enough.

Have you thought about getting a steam generator iron? Buying one has literally meant ironing takes half the time and everything is ironed really well too.
